Civil Structural Engineer

Job Summary:

The Civil / Structural Engineer will support the planning, design, analysis, and rehabilitation of hydropower and water resource infrastructure. This role involves delivering engineering solutions for dams, powerhouses, spillways, and related hydraulic structures. The engineer will perform structural modeling, load and seismic analysis, condition assessments, and develop engineering drawings and specifications while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and reliable asset performance. Responsibilities:

• Provide civil/structural support for design modifications, equipment applications, failure research, engineering studies, and operations and maintenance activities.
• Conduct site visits for field inspections, condition assessments, and equipment evaluations, developing technical recommendations independently.
• Coordinate cross-disciplinary activities to ensure successful project development and execution.
• Provide expertise in the selection, interpretation, and application of codes, standards, and procedures.
• Direct and review civil design and drafting personnel in project drawing development.
• Review designs, calculations, specifications, and reports from internal engineers and external consultants.
• Develop technical scopes of work for external consultants and prepare construction specifications and calculations.
• Solve complex engineering challenges and collaborate with external consultants to deliver projects on schedule and budget.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, site personnel, project management, external stakeholders, and business units.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent from an accredited institution.
• Proficiency in structural systems design, operation, and maintenance.
• Working knowledge of civil engineering systems, materials, applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
• Experience with civil/structural design software such as STAADPro, Risa, MathCad, PLS CADD, or similar.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to perform engineering calculations, prepare specifications, scopes of work, reports, and interdisciplinary design packages.
• Competency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• New York State Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
• Experience leading teams with or without direct supervision.
• Electric utility or related industry experience.
• Strong collaboration, negotiation, time management, and conflict resolution skills.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations.
