Veterinary Surgeon
Tempus Veterinary Recruitment
Introduction This privately owned specialty surgical practice in Plainville, Massachusetts is hiring for a Veterinary Surgeon to join its growing team. With an additional location opening in Cambridge and an established referral network across the Greater Boston area, the practice offers an excellent opportunity for a surgeon seeking autonomy, flexibility, and the ability to practice high-quality medicine without corporate pressures. Founded by surgeons, the hospital places strong emphasis on patient care, client relationships, and creating a positive workplace culture where veterinary professionals are supported and valued. The practice is particularly appealing for surgeons looking to move away from corporate medicine and join an environment that prioritizes clinical freedom, guaranteed finish times, and work life balance. Role Description and Responsibilities The Veterinary Surgeon will manage a varied surgical caseload encompassing both orthopedic and soft tissue procedures. Common procedures include TPLOs, fracture repair, and advanced soft tissue surgery, with more complex trauma cases referred as appropriate. The role is suited to an ACVS Diplomate or a veterinarian who has completed a surgical residency, ideally with several years of post-residency experience and the confidence to work independently. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with referring veterinarians, deliver exceptional client communication, and contribute to the continued growth and development of the practice. Opportunities exist to work primarily from the Plainville location or rotate between Plainville and the new Cambridge facility. Flexible scheduling is available, with most surgeons working three to four days per week between 8:00am and 5:00pm, although a five-day schedule is also available for those seeking additional earning potential. There are no on-call responsibilities, weekend shifts, or holiday requirements. Practice Details The practice is equipped with advanced surgical and diagnostic technology to support a broad range of orthopedic and soft tissue procedures. Equipment includes a CT scanner at the Cambridge location, fluoroscopy, scope tower equipment, two surgical drills, full soft tissue instrumentation sets, Ligasure, digital radiography, arthroscopy, and laparoscopy. The hospitals are equipped to perform TPLO procedures and fracture repairs across a wide range of patient sizes. The practice maintains strong relationships with local emergency and critical care providers to ensure comprehensive patient support when required. The hospital is committed to delivering individualized patient care and exceptional client service, with easy access to surgeons and a highly personalized approach to case management. An eventual goal of Fear Free certification reflects the practice's commitment to patient comfort and low-stress handling. The hospital is closed on weekends, holidays, and between Christmas and New Year, with this holiday closure not deducted from employee PTO. Free parking is available at both locations. Team The practice is supported by a highly experienced and seasoned team of veterinary professionals. Surgeons work alongside anesthesia-trained technicians, with two experienced technicians and two technician assistants supporting each doctor during procedures. The culture emphasizes teamwork, mutual respect, and hiring individuals with positive attitudes who contribute to the collaborative environment. Staff wellbeing is a core focus, with scheduled breaks, strong support systems, and a commitment to ensuring employees feel valued and supported in their roles.
