Job Description
The Environmental Project Professional will lead and coordinate environmental assessment and remediation projects, providing technical oversight, data analysis, and high-quality deliverables for private and municipal clients. This role involves managing field activities for active remediation systems, performing detailed data review and interpretation, preparing reports and engineering design documents, and serving as a delegated project lead. The position requires exercising independent judgment, working with minimal direction, and mentoring junior staff while ensuring that all work meets regulatory, technical, and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage field work for multiple environmental projects, including activities on active remediation systems.
- Lead, mentor, and manage junior staff, providing guidance, technical direction, and oversight on project tasks.
- Delegate portions of project deliverables to junior staff and review their work for quality and completeness.
- Record detailed field data in accordance with standard operating procedures, including soil characteristics, lithology, groundwater and surface water data, photographs, and written field logs.
- Evaluate and interpret field and analytical data for reporting purposes and to determine future project needs, with or without guidance from the Project Manager.
- Perform engineering calculations and use applicable modeling programs to support design and remediation decisions.
- Coordinate and review preparation of drawings and plan sets to support design and construction activities.
- Conduct and document construction quality assurance observations to verify compliance with construction documents and specifications.
- Communicate with clients regarding field work coordination, project status, reporting, design document progress, permitting status, and meeting logistics.
- Prepare project budgets and schedules, and manage project financials including budgeting, invoicing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and resource scheduling.
- Write and prepare a variety of technical documents and reports, including proposals, Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments, Soil Management Plans, Dust Control Plans, emission reports, groundwater reports, and environmental compliance reports.
- Lead permit processing efforts and coordinate with regulatory agencies to support project approvals and compliance.
- Complete quality control reviews on all work products, including reports, design plans, design calculations, modeling, data, and health and safety plans, prior to submission.
- Participate in required health and safety training and apply advanced health and safety knowledge to field and office work.
- Review technical documents to ensure completeness, accuracy, and conformance to project, client, and regulatory requirements.
- Serve as a technical resource for junior staff and assist in resolving project-specific issues and challenges.
- Work independently or collaboratively with other staff to complete assignments received from Project Managers or Project Directors.
- Exercise independent judgment to prioritize tasks, solve problems, and advance project objectives with minimal direction from management.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 5+ years of environmental assessment and remediation experience, including remediation and site assessment work.
- Demonstrated experience with project coordination and project management level remediation activities, including data review, data analysis, report writing, and field oversight on active remediation systems.
- Hands-on experience with soil sampling, groundwater and surface water sampling, and water sampling techniques.
- Experience with environmental site assessment and environmental compliance activities.
- Strong experience in environmental science, geology, or a related technical discipline.
- Proficiency in report writing for environmental projects, including Phase I and Phase II assessments and regulatory reports.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Advanced health and safety knowledge applicable to field and office environmental work.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills for interaction with clients, regulators, and internal teams.
- Advanced problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical and project issues.
- Mastery in the use of field testing equipment and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues.
- Mastery in reading and understanding engineering design plans and related technical drawings.
- Advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory agencies and relevant environmental codes and standards.
- Understanding of scientific concepts including physics, statistics, chemistry, mathematics, and geosciences.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between project sites and offices as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, or a related scientific discipline from an accredited institution.
- 5+ years of assessment and remediation experience, including coordination of field work and project deliverables.
- Experience with FDEP and/or DERM standard operating procedures is preferred.
- EIT, PG, or PE license is a plus.
- Knowledge of project financials and related tools, including Deltek, project budgets, purchase orders, invoicing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work products.
- Ability to use basic hand tools such as hammers and screwdrivers during field activities.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Ability to lead, mentor, and develop junior staff in both field and office environments.
Work Environment
The Environmental Project Professional will work in a mix of office and field environments, supporting projects from regional offices that may include locations such as Coconut Creek, Miami, or West Palm. Office work involves using standard business software such as Microsoft Office and project management tools, reviewing technical documents, performing data analysis, and preparing reports and design documents. Field work may include visits to remediation sites, landfills, agricultural facilities, and other environmental project locations where the professional will collect samples, operate field testing equipment, and perform construction quality assurance observations. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.87/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
