About the Role

Woven by Toyota is seeking experienced Systems Engineers to join the Arene Applied Engineering organization supporting its Tools and Vehicle SDK platforms.

These positions require true systems-engineering expertise rather than primarily software-development backgrounds. Candidates must be able to architect complex software systems, decompose systems into subsystems, develop system and software requirements, understand component interactions, and communicate architectural decisions clearly.

Automotive systems experience is strongly preferred, with aerospace considered a relevant secondary background.

This is a contingent worker position. Woven by Toyota will not be the candidate's direct employer.

Core Responsibilities

• Develop system and software architecture for complex automotive platforms

• Translate product and customer needs into system-level requirements

• Decompose system requirements into subsystems and software requirements

• Develop state machines, sequence diagrams, use cases, and architecture models

• Create requirements that can be handed to software-development teams for implementation

• Understand existing software systems and reverse-engineer requirements and architecture where necessary

• Collaborate with product, software, systems, integration, and global engineering teams

• Troubleshoot complex system-level and software-integration issues

• Support hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop environments

• Work with embedded, Linux-based, cloud-connected, and distributed automotive systems

• Review C++ sufficiently to understand architecture, perform reviews, and reverse-engineer existing software

Core Qualifications

• Strong professional systems-engineering experience

• Demonstrated systems architecture and system-design experience

• Extensive experience developing system and software requirements

• Ability to create and explain architecture diagrams

• Model-Based Systems Engineering experience

• SysML and/or UML experience

• Strong understanding of software architecture

• Strong Python development skills

• Ability to understand and review C++

• Automotive experience strongly preferred

• Aerospace systems experience considered

• Strong communication and customer-facing abilities

• Ability to independently solve complex architectural problems

Tooling / Platform Systems Engineer

This engineer will focus on integrating Woven's tools into Toyota and Toyota-affiliated systems and platforms.

Additional Focus

• Customer-facing requirements gathering and problem solving

• Integration of tools into customer platforms

• Hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop environments

• FMUs and simulation-related architecture

• Containers and distributed software systems

• Software-development architecture

• Platform and tooling architecture

• CATIA-based architecture modeling

• Requirements management using Jama, StrictDoc, or similar platforms

• Cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, or GCP

• Containerization and DevOps tooling

• Bazel, GitHub/GitLab, CI/CD, and software integration pipelines

Vehicle SDK Systems Engineer

This position requires the core qualifications above plus deeper embedded-automotive expertise.

• ECU architecture experience

• Embedded robotics or automotive software

• Software verification and validation planning

• Experience leading projects or small technical teams

Interview Expectations

Candidates should be prepared to draw and explain a system architecture live during the interview . They may be given a system and asked to:

• Explain how its components communicate

• Develop system use cases

• Explain architectural decisions and tradeoffs

• Decompose the architecture into subsystems

• Translate system-level needs into requirements

• Develop software-level requirements for implementation teams

• Reverse-engineer requirements from an existing system

A candidate who primarily codes embedded software but cannot independently architect, decompose, and explain complex systems is unlikely to be successful.
