Physician (Radiology-Diagnostic)

James A. Haley VA Medical Center's Diagnostic Imaging Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Physician (Radiology‑Diagnostic). Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program.

Basic Requirements

• United States citizenship (non‑citizens may be appointed only if recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible).
• Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year the course of study was completed.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Board certification in Radiology‑Diagnostic.
• Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program Radiology‑Diagnostic leading to eligibility for board certification.

Residency Training

• Approved residencies include, but are not limited to:
  1. Residency completed under an accrediting body such as ACGME or AOA for the year the residency or fellowship was completed.
  2. One year of post‑medical‑school training (internship, first year of residency, or transitional year residency) approved by ACGME or AOA followed by two years of independent practice in the United States.
  3. Non‑US residency training followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent practice in the United States, with duties related to the position.
• Residents currently enrolled in accredited residency programs and otherwise meeting basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), with specified limitations.

Exceptions

• In rare and unusual circumstances, the Facility Director may submit a memo to the VISN Director and Chief Medical Officer who may approve reasonable requests for exceptions to the residency training requirement for physicians whose comprehensive record warrants such action.

Preferred Experience

• Body MRI interpretation and fluoroscopy (including gastrointestinal fluoroscopy) are strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Light to moderate lifting (15–44 lbs).
• Light carrying (15 lbs and under).
• Reach above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required.
• Walking up to 2 hours; standing up to 2 hours; kneeling up to 1 hour.
• Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.
• Near vision correctable at 13"–16"; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other.
• Depth perception and ability to distinguish fine details.
