Senior Product ManagerSenior Product Manager, Financial ProductsDepartment: Product & StrategyReports To: Director, Product ManagementLocation: Austin, TX (Hybrid Required)Work Authorization Notice: Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without requiring current or future employer sponsorship of any kind, including but not limited to OPT, STEM OPT, H-1B, or any other visa classification. At TogetherWork, we set a high bar for clarity, collaboration, and execution. While our Product & Strategy leaders own portfolio outcomes, our individual contributors are equally essential, bringing curiosity, precision, and a commitment to excellence to every initiative. We work in deep partnership with Engineering, Revenue, CX, Operations, and Support, sharing accountability for delivering stable, modern, insight-driven products that help our customers thrive.Financial functionality carries a different standard of accuracy than the rest of our product surface. Customers rely on it to keep their books clean, trace every transaction, reconcile against their bank, and file taxes with confidence. That level of trust is the bar this role protects, and it shapes how the work gets prioritized, tested, and shipped. What makes this product hard is who operates it. The person handling the accounting is often a volunteer, elected to a one-year term, with no formal finance background and a successor waiting behind them. They are managing real money that belongs to other people, and they answer to a governing body that expects clean, consistent reporting. That constraint is not something onboarding or documentation can solve. Correctness has to be designed in, so the right outcome is the default path rather than something the user has to know how to find.We expect team members to bring strong analytical thinking, operational rigor, and real fluency with generative AI and modern product tooling. Hard work is the norm, not for recognition, but for the greater good of our customers and the long-term health of our company. This role reflects those expectations: financially literate, technically credible, customer-centered, and grounded in professionalism and positive intent.Role SummaryThe Senior Product Manager, Financial Products owns the end-to-end financial experience for a platform that serves member-driven organizations and the national bodies that govern them. That scope runs from money in to money out and everything the treasurer has to reconcile in between: dues billing and collection, member ledgers and balances, payment plans and delinquency, card and ACH processing, fundraising, budgeting and forecasting, bank account connectivity, expense tracking and reimbursement, tax filing support, and reporting up to the governing organization. This is a hands-on senior individual contributor role for someone with a genuine accounting foundation, not a product manager who has picked up finance vocabulary along the way. The person in this seat can read a budget-versus-actual report, explain why a bank reconciliation is out of balance, and understand what a tax-exempt organization is actually obligated to file and when. The distinguishing requirement is the ability to hold both halves at once: accounting rigor and radical simplicity. Our users are not accountants and will never become accountants. This role translates real financial discipline into a product that a first-time volunteer treasurer can operate correctly in their first week.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Product OwnershipOwn the roadmap, requirements, and outcomes for the financial platform, including billing and dues, payments, member ledgers, budgeting, banking, expenses, and financial reporting.Write clear, decision-ready requirements that specify financial behavior explicitly: what posts, when it posts, against which account or budget line, and what happens when it is reversed.Make and defend build, buy, and partner decisions on financial infrastructure, with a clear view of total cost, compliance exposure, and long-term maintainability.Prioritize against real business impact (collection rates, retention, payment volume, support cost) rather than request volume or stakeholder volume.Sequence work with awareness that financial data decisions are difficult and expensive to reverse once customer money and history exist in the system.Accounting Integrity, Tax & ComplianceServe as the product-side authority on financial correctness: double-entry integrity, immutability of posted transactions, audit trail completeness, and clean period boundaries.Own requirements for budget-versus-actual reporting, fund and restricted balance handling, and the year-end and officer-transition reporting the governing body depends on.Own the product requirements supporting tax filing obligations for tax-exempt organizations, in partnership with internal experts and outside counsel where appropriate.Partner with Engineering, Security, and Compliance on PCI DSS, customer and business verification requirements tied to banking and money movement, data retention, and applicable state-level rules governing payment fees and surcharging.Escalate correctness risk early and clearly. A late launch is recoverable; a corrupted ledger or a bad filing is not.Payments, Banking & Money MovementOwn the money movement lifecycle across card and ACH: authorization, capture, settlement, payout, refund, dispute, and chargeback, including the reconciliation path connecting each step back to a member's balance.Define requirements for payment plans, autopay, partial payments, late fees, dunning, failed payment recovery, and the delinquency workflows that follow.Own bank connectivity and treasury functionality, including account linking, transaction sync, reimbursement and vendor payment flows, and the reconciliation experience.Partner with processors and banking partners on integration scope, fee structure, cost recovery mechanics, and operational escalation paths.Improve collection rates, payment success, and time-to-collect as measurable product outcomes for our customers.Designing for the Volunteer TreasurerDesign financial workflows for users with no accounting background, short tenure, and no appetite for training, without sacrificing the integrity of the underlying records.Build for annual officer turnover as a first-class product problem: onboarding, handoff, permissions, historical continuity, and institutional memory that survives the transition.Reduce the cost of user error through guardrails, sensible defaults, plain-language explanations, and recoverable actions, rather than assuming the user will know what a correct entry looks like.Partner with Support and CX to find where users get stuck or get it wrong, and treat recurring financial mistakes as product defects rather than training gaps.Balance the needs of two audiences whose interests do not always align: the local organization that wants autonomy and speed, and the governing body that wants standardization, visibility, and control.Customer Discovery & Cross-Functional DeliveryConduct discovery directly with treasurers, advisors, and staff at governing organizations, and translate their real workflows, including the spreadsheets they have built around our gaps, into product requirements.Maintain a clear view of the seasonal cycles that drive this business, and plan roadmap and release timing around the periods when customers cannot absorb disruption.Track competitive platforms, banking and payment alternatives, and regulatory change that affects requirements.Partner with Engineering and Delivery Managers through refinement, build, and release, staying close enough to implementation to catch financial-behavior drift.Work with Revenue on pricing, packaging, and fee model changes, and with internal Finance and Accounting as genuine stakeholders rather than reviewers at the end.Communicate scope, tradeoffs, and risk clearly to senior leadership, including what we are choosing not to do and why.AI-First Ways of WorkingUse AI tools as a core part of the product workflow: requirements drafting, discovery synthesis, competitive analysis, data exploration, and documentation.Apply judgment to AI output, particularly on financial and tax logic where a plausible-sounding answer can be wrong in ways that are expensive to discover later.Build repeatable, AI-supported workflows that raise the quality and speed of product artifacts across the team, not just your own output.QualificationsRequired Qualifications6+ years of product management experience, including at least 3 years owning financial, payments, billing, or accounting functionality in a SaaS environment.A formal accounting foundation: an accounting degree, CPA (active or lapsed), or 3+ years in an accounting, bookkeeping, controllership, or audit role.Demonstrated command of core accounting concepts, including double-entry mechanics, accrual versus cash basis, bank reconciliation, chart of accounts structure, and budget-versus-actual reporting. This will be assessed directly in the interview process.Hands-on experience shipping payment functionality with a processor or gateway across both
