FABRICATION SHOPS SUPERVISOR

Salary: $52.98 - $70.39 hourly Location: Los Angeles, CA Job Type: Regular Employee Department: Cabinet Operations Opening Date: 06/22/2026 Closing Date: 7/6/2026 5:00 PM Pacific Overview Supervisor of technical staff responsible for the fabrication and re‑manufacturing of public transit vehicle parts, assemblies, and equipment. Key Responsibilities Plans, organizes, and assigns work for fabrication shops. Develops and maintains computer and manual files for payroll, attendance, project budgets, and production activities; prepares daily reports. Implements and maintains safety programs and ensures compliance with Environmental Management System. Conducts meetings to inform employees about safety, tool use, equipment upgrades, projects, and related topics. Investigates and reports accidents and injuries. Follows up on ordered parts, equipment, and supplies; administers warranty claims. Provides counsel to subordinates on compliance with procedures, rules, and regulations. Conducts first‑level disciplinary and grievance hearings. Analyzes structural failures, identifies problems, and assists staff in remedying them. Conducts meetings to determine users’ needs. Approves completed work/repairs and prepares various reports, develops presentations, oversees special development projects. Supervises subordinate staff and enforces Metro’s safety rules, policies, and procedures. May be required to perform other related duties. Minimum Qualifications Education Associate’s Degree in a related field or equivalent training from a recognized trade school. Experience Four years of relevant journey‑level experience performing machinist work in the manufacture, assembly, installation, and/or repair of parts and equipment. Minimum two years of experience operating a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) mill and lathe. Experience welding, fabricating sheet metal, and/or reverse engineering materials preferred. Certifications / Special Requirements Will require supervising staff from mechanic classifications when assigned. Frequent exposure to weather, physical, electrical, mechanical, and chemical hazards. Shift work. Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and use approved safety equipment and personal protective gear. Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of safe and proper use of tools and equipment. Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies governing maintenance, repair, and procurement of public transit vehicles. Project planning and budgeting techniques. Principles of supervision. Business computer software proficiency, including CAM software and G & M codes for CNC machinery. Industrial mathematics and understanding of properties of ferrous and non‑ferrous metals. Welding and sheet metal fabrication techniques. Judgment, creativity, and problem‑solving skills. Effective verbal and written communication. Ability to plan, organize, and monitor technical personnel work. Operation of various machine tools. Interpret CAD drawings and convert to finished products. Operate computers, M3 program terminals, and diagnostic equipment. Special Conditions Job specification not exhaustive.
