Position Summary

Applies the nursing process with patients and families, integrating principles that reflect sensitivity to their age-specific/developmental needs, gender, culture, religion, psychosocial and socioeconomic backgrounds in order to provide evidence-based, holistic care in a manner that respects the worth and dignity of each individual. Practices professional nursing as a licensed practical nurse within the legal and ethical framework established by the Connecticut Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association Scope and Standards for Nursing Practice and Code for Nurses, and applicable regulatory agencies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Under General Supervision:

• Oversee the Medical Assistant schedule daily work assignments
• Oversee the clinical competency for the Medical Assistants
• Assist the Front Desk with the intake process (ensuring that the patient is initially scheduled with the appropriate provider subspecialist)
• Help triage the appropriateness of incoming urgent referrals
• Facilitate the navigation process for patients with complex clinical diseases that require coordination of clinical tests, labwork, or advanced clinical studies
• Facilitate and streamline the prescription refill process (with documented refill protocols from the providers)
• Manage the pre-authorization process of ordered clinical studies and outgoing referrals
• In an MA's absence, provide direct patient care (rooming, vitals, medication reconciliation, assisting providers with procedures) necessary for in-clinic workflow.
• Triages urgent calls from patients that are too complex for medical assistants.
• Assists providers with office based procedures.
• Rooms patients and manages Epic in-basket messages as needed.
• Processes medication refills.
• Other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
• Currently licensed to practice in the State of Connecticut.
• Has the knowledge and skills necessary to assess health needs of patients and to perform nursing care in a safe, caring manner.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous Lead experience in a clinical role
