Whether you're taking an order at the counter, pulling product from the cooler, or keeping the workspace clean and organized, your work makes a real difference every shift.If you enjoy a fast-paced food service environment, take pride in quality, and love working with people, we'd love to have you on our team.What You'll DoNo two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting every customer with a smile, taking orders at the Hy-Chi counter, and assisting them with their needs throughout the storeReview orders for the day and ensure an adequate food supply is ready and on hand by developing or following a production listPrepare, finish, and replenish product as necessary and pull product from the cooler or freezer to prepare for cookingReview the status and appearance of food for freshness and maintain quality standards throughout the shiftCheck in product, put product away, and review invoices as neededRun the department register, receive payment, and make change as applicablePractice proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean, neat, and safe at all timesRemove trash in a timely manner and wash dishes as necessaryOrder product and supplies and price product for customers as neededAnswer the phone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to customers who call, including taking customer ordersFollow Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all department and company guidelinesPitch in with other tasks or special projects as they come upYour SkillsYou don't need extensive experience for this role; we'll provide the training you need to succeed. To hit the ground running, you'll need to be able to:Bring commitment to Hy-Vee's mission and a genuine passion for helping customersFollow written and verbal instructions carefully and with attention to detailApply basic math skills including simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recordingCommunicate clearly with customers and co-workers and contribute positively to the teamLearn and apply proper sanitation, food safety, and department proceduresReporting RelationshipsAccountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, Health Wellness Home; Hy-Chi Department Manager; Assistant Hy-Chi Department Manager; Service ManagersEducation and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent experienceUp to six months of similar or related experience; we'll provide all the training you need to succeedPhysical RequirementsFrequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areasWhere applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparationWhere applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipmentWhere applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standardsPerform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation dutiesWorking EnvironmentThis is a fast-moving role with significant pressure to meet demands throughout your shift. You'll work in the Hy-Chi department and can expect regular exposure to flour, dust, noise, and temperature extremes, as well as occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals and solvents.
