Food Service Assistant

Reports To: Kitchen Manager

Pay Type: Hourly, Non-Exempt, Classified, Non-Supervisory

Pay Rate: Starting at $14 / hr.

Benefits: Eligible for voluntary benefits only (see attachment for details)

Schedule: Part-time; 5.75 hrs. / day; 187 days / yr.; Follows school calendar

Duties And Responsibilities

Assists in the preparation, serving, and selling of foods inside a school cafeteria

Assists in the cleaning of the kitchen and snack bar areas

Assists in the cleaning and maintenance of utensils and equipment

May also assist receiving cash or tickets and maintaining simple records

Attends all mandatory training

Maintains proper food safety and sanitation procedures

Willing to perform all duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager which may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Cashiering
• Serving
• Preparing Food
• Washing Dishes
• Cleaning

Job Specifications

Education, Training, and Experience Required:

High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

Experience in a Food Service environment (Schools preferred)

ServSafe Certification preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:

Displays positive and enthusiastic attitude

Ability to work as a team with other staff

Displays dependability and punctuality

Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. and stand on feet for long periods of time

Working Conditions

Position works indoors in a typical school cafeteria/kitchen area

May work near others, often within a few feet

Often will be exposed to noisy and distracting environments

Often will be exposed to hot and cold temperatures

Occasionally will work near contaminants and hazardous equipment
