Location 610 West 4th Street,Storm Lake, IA, 50588,United States Job Category Staff Employee Type Hourly Description Buena Vista University is seeking a reliable and motivated Groundskeeper to support the routine care, maintenance, and appearance of university grounds. This position plays a vital role in ensuring a safe, attractive, and welcoming campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Primary Responsibilities Perform routine grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging, and general lawn care Maintain trees, shrubs, flower beds, and landscaped areas Assist with seasonal duties such as snow and ice removal, leaf collection, and debris cleanup Collect and remove trash and litter from campus grounds Operate, maintain, and perform basic repairs on grounds equipment such as tractors, mowers, and hand tools Monitor grounds conditions and report maintenance or safety concerns to supervisors Follow established safety procedures and university policies Required Qualifications Demonstrated basic mechanical skills and ability to safely operate grounds equipment Ability to work outdoors in varying and inclement weather conditions Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record High school diploma or equivalent Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or facilities maintenance Experience operating commercial mowing and maintenance equipment Physical and Work Requirements Ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, and climb for extended periods. Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials and equipment. May occasionally be required to lift and move up to 75 pounds. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and humidity. Ability to safely work around fertilizers, pesticides, cleaning agents, and other chemicals commonly used in grounds maintenance while utilizing required personal protective equipment (PPE) Ability to tolerate exposure to common environmental conditions associated with outdoor work, including dust, pollen, grass, insects, and varying terrain.
