Medical Science Liaison (MSL) – Alexion/AstraZeneca Rare Disease This is what you will do: The MSL is a field-based scientific expert that strategically supports the medical and scientific objectives of Alexion and AstraZeneca Rare Disease’s products across their life cycle. The individual communicates accurate science to HCPs within a geographic area, manages professional relationships, and identifies collaboration opportunities with Alexion and AstraZeneca Rare Disease. The MSL combines business acumen and clinical expertise and serves as a peer‑to‑peer liaison internally and externally. Preferred Location: Resident in New Jersey or Connecticut (high preference). You will be responsible for: HCP Relationship Management Evaluate territory to profile and identify HCPs for engagement. Identify key centers of excellence. Develop clear, succinct, impactful engagement plans aligned with medical goals and refine them quarterly. Gain HCP trust by providing accurate scientific and medical information. Gather and disseminate HCP insights to inform internal medical strategy. Build strong relationships in various external business settings. Scientific Knowledge and Training Stay current with scientific knowledge of assigned products and therapeutic area. Support scientific exchange of product/disease state with external stakeholders. Provide relevant scientific information to internal teams. Demonstrate understanding of real‑world evidence and HEOR. Research & Development Understand clinical study design and protocols. Ensure HCPs and stakeholders receive balanced clinical and scientific information. Develop expertise to conduct credible discussions with HCPs. Support externally sponsored research and clinical trials. U.S. Healthcare System Knowledge Acquire knowledge of the current U.S. healthcare system and its impact on the rare disease ecosystem. Build a basic understanding of managed markets and information flow in managed care and government organizations. Minimum Education MD, PharmD, or PhD in biological sciences (strongly preferred). Clinical experience in a relevant therapeutic area or proven MSL success. Minimum Experience 2+ years of direct patient care experience. Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent oral and written communication skills. Energetic, goal‑oriented, and proactive initiative. Strong teamwork, time‑management, and independent work ability. Leadership skills and high‑level competency. Additional Role Requirements Home‑based office with 3–4 days of regional travel and 1–2 office days per week. Minimum 70% travel. Travel to medical meetings, team meetings, and other group meetings, including possible weekends as scheduled. Must live within the territory. Travel by public transportation, automobile, train, or plane; work in a clinical setting; use computer; communicate via phone, video, and e‑mail; remain available during standard business hours. Use fully electric vehicle (EV) when assigned, per Ambition Zero Carbon program; able to conduct frequent overnight and weekend travel. All activities comply with Alexion/AstraZeneca policies. Compensation The annual base pay ranges from $152,453 to $228,680. The position offers eligibility for short‑term incentive bonuses, equity‑based awards for salaried roles, and commissions for sales roles.
