Section Chief of Neonatology
D-H Lebanon-MHMH
Overview
Section Chief, Neonatology Dartmouth Health Children's and Geisel School of Medicine The Department of Pediatrics at Dartmouth Health Children's and The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth seeks an exceptional neonatologist to be the next leader for its Section of Neonatology. The Section created and continues to host the first neonatal intensive care unit in New Hampshire, the Intensive Care Nursery (ICN) at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) in Lebanon. We seek candidates with the appetite and aptitude for leadership within a complex regional system for perinatal care. Dartmouth Health Children's is the pediatric service of Dartmouth Health (DH), an integrated academic healthcare delivery system for northern New England anchored by DHMC, which is recognized by US News & World Report as the Best Hospital in NH. DHMC is home to over 50 graduate medical education programs, including a fellowship in Neonatal Perinatal Medicine, and CHaD - Children's Hospital at DHMC - NH's only children's hospital and the flagship for Dartmouth Health Children's, which provides an extended system of care with primary, specialty, and advanced tertiary pediatric services, including an inpatient pediatric unit with PICU at CHaD. Dartmouth Health Children's is committed to addressing inequities that prevent all children and adolescents from living their healthiest, happiest lives. The Section of Neonatology includes 7 neonatologists and over a dozen advanced practice providers who provide care for infants in the ICN, a 30-bed NICU that is at the highest-level acuity in the state, with all services on site other than cardiac surgery and ECMO, which are delivered at partner programs in Boston. DHMC is the primary referral center for high-risk maternal fetal care in the region, serving medical and surgical patients from most of New Hampshire and eastern Vermont. Approximately half of the patients in the ICN are out born from across our broad primarily rural region and we have a robust system of tele -support for emergent care and consultation to referring labor and delivery centers. An emerging partnership with the Level III NICU at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester, the largest population center in the state, will create a regional program in neonatology that will be a focus for the next Section Chief to guide. Teaching fellowship trainees in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, pediatric residents, and medical students are priorities of the Section. Appointment at The Geisel School of Medicine at a senior rank commensurate with portfolio is therefore expected. Academic opportunities abound across the Dartmouth ecosystem: the Section has a long track record in Quality Improvement as a founding member of the Vermont Oxford Network along with health services research in partnership with The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, as well as a strong engagement in global health and clinical research. Physicians at Dartmouth Health Children's enjoy the rare opportunity to combine high level academic medicine with a serene and stress-free living environment. Lebanon is in the Upper Connecticut River Valley, the home of Dartmouth College and its abundant cultural and enrichment activities. With destinations like Boston, New York, Montreal, the seacoast, and ski country within short driving distance, this is an ideal place to live and work.
