Part-Time Gift Shop Clerk

Shutters on the Beach is hiring a Part-Time Gift Shop Clerk! Essential job functions include promoting sales by using suggestive selling techniques, ensuring the shop is kept clean, and that displays are attractively merchandised to promote sales. The role also involves ensuring all assigned inventory counts are accurate, protecting assets against losses and shoplifting, and handling all cash transactions accurately. Proper procedures for credit card and room charge transactions must be followed, and proper identification and department information must be obtained for all employee discounts. Adherence to the hotel cash handling policy and proper register operation procedures is required. Constant communication with the gift shop manager is necessary to stay informed of all shop-related problems, customer requests, and fast-moving items to maximize sales and guest satisfaction.

Position qualifications include prior experience in a cash handling position, three months or more of retail/sales related experience is preferred. Knowledge of computer equipment or other technical devices or broad knowledge in several operational areas may be required. Mathematics proficiency is needed to handle cash, and the ability to compile facts and figures in accordance with established procedures is necessary. A working knowledge of a particular aspect of Interstate's services, policies, or operations is required, which is generally learned on-the-job. The ability to read, speak, and understand the English language in order to communicate with employees is essential. The role requires the ability to respond quickly and accurately to requests, handling multiple tasks quickly and efficiently. The ability to stand and move throughout continuously to perform essential job functions is necessary. Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations is required. The candidate must be able to represent the company in a professional, well-groomed, and courteous manner and maintain poise and a sense of humor amidst a fast-paced and demanding environment.

Education: High school education or equivalent experience.

Physical requirements include sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and hearing and seeing. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee shall be able to lift inventory, boxes up to 40 lbs., carry newspapers in every morning, and pull/push racks of merchandise.
