Sr Aquatic Specialist - Eastway Regional Recreation Center

Hiring Range: $22.79/hr - $29.91/hr Position Summary Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is excited to add a Sr Aquatic Specialist to the team! This full-time position will be based at Eastway Regional Recreation Center and will be an integral part of our Aquatics team. The incumbent will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and instructing a variety of aquatic recreation and leisure programs, activities, and events for diversified age groups, such as swimming lessons, water aerobics and aquatic summer camps. The incumbent will also participate in overseeing staff trainings and scheduling as well as providing additional support on the pool decks. In addition, they will be crucial in maintaining strong relationships with our community and seeking input on current and future aquatic programs. This position will work a rotating schedule to include daytime hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business and facility needs. Preferred Qualifications Lifeguard Instructor Certification highly preferred Experience conducting swimming lessons and aquatic fitness classes Essential Functions Assist in supervision of activities in an aquatic environment, recreation center or park facility Develop, evaluate and lead programs and activities in an aquatic facility, recreation center or park facility Provide customer service and handling of funds in a recreation center or park facility through telephone, emails, web site, social media and walk in patrons and customers for information, program registration, center daily use and rentals Supervise part-time and temporary employees, including scheduling, coaching and annual reviews Assist with monitoring the assigned center's budget, contracts and compliance Develop and coordinate a wide range of recreation and leisure programs for a diverse audience Assist with development of, maintenance repair of equipment and inventory needs Partner with community leaders to ensure quality programs within the community Secure instructors and/or volunteers for programs Advertise programs via radio stations, flyers, Public Service Announcements, banner, and internet Assist with department events Approve program proposals Complete Monthly safety checklists Communicate effectively with school site administration if located at a satellite site Ensure safety of participants/spectators and administer first aid when necessary Collect fees and taking registrations for recreational programs and facility rentals Handle inquiries and complaints from public May serve as the manager on duty Minimum Qualifications Experience: Minimum two (2) years related experience Education Bachelor’s degree Combination of Relevant Experience and Education Accepted? Yes Licenses & Certifications Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges; CPR/First Aid; Lifeguard Certification; Ability to obtain Lifeguard Instructor Certification and Swim Instructor Certification within 6 months of hire Computer Skills Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite Knowledge Aquatic recreational programming and instruction Skills Applying recreational knowledge through hands‑on activities Developing and enforcing general rules and safety procedure Managing multiple tasks concurrently Communicating effectively both orally and in writing Organizing and presenting demonstrations in area of specialization Abilities Adaptability: Maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment; adjusting effectively to work within new work structures, processes, requirements, or cultures Applied Learning: Assimilating and applying new job‑related information in a timely manner Building Trust: Interacting with others in a way that instills confidence in one’s intentions and those of the organization Communication: Clearly conveying information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the information provided Customer Focus: Ensuring that the customer perspective is a driving forces behind business decisions and activities; crafting and implementing service practices that meet customers’ and own organization’s needs Initiating Action: Taking prompt action to accomplish objectives; taking action to achieve goals beyond what is required; being proactive Safety Awareness: Identifying and correcting conditions that affect employee safety; upholding safety standards Work Environment Works indoors with loud noises Compensation And Benefits In addition to a competitive salary, Mecklenburg County offers a generous benefits package which greatly increases your total compensation.
