Staffing Coordinator

Location: Charleston, SC 29425 (100% onsite) Position: Staffing Coordinator Pay Rate: $26.66/hr Duration: 13 weeks – potential for permanent conversion Expected Shift: Day Shift (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM) 3 days a week Weekends required up to 4 per scheduling period Holiday flexibility required as needed Key Responsibilities Coordinate and allocate nursing and ancillary staff across inpatient units Manage real‑time staffing adjustments, call‑outs, and staffing shortages Conduct staffing evaluations and adjust assignments based on census and operational needs Collaborate with hospital supervisors, charge nurses, and unit leadership Participate in staffing huddles and operational planning meetings Develop staffing plans for upcoming shifts Allocate incoming resources based on staffing priorities and patient care needs Respond to admissions, discharges, staffing changes, and patient safety needs Utilize workforce scheduling systems to manage staffing assignments and availability Support patient throughput and operational efficiency through effective staffing decisions Maintain communication across multiple departments in a fast‑paced hospital environment Important Call Outs Candidates must be committed to working the assigned shift, weekends, and holidays as needed No competing employment, PRN commitments, or scheduling restrictions Must have true hospital staffing operations and/or centralized staffing experience in an inpatient hospital environment Candidates whose experience is primarily patient scheduling, admissions, front office, or medical office administration are generally not considered Candidates with LTAC, rehab, outpatient clinic, home health, patient scheduling, front desk, or administrative scheduling backgrounds are generally not considered unless they also have hospital‑based centralized staffing experience Must be comfortable working in a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment with minimal ramp‑up time Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required Associate's Degree preferred Bachelor's Degree a plus Experience Minimum 2 years of healthcare staffing coordination experience; 3–5+ years strongly preferred Experience in a hospital‑based staffing office, centralized staffing office, resource management center, float pool, bed management, house supervisor support, or similar environment Experience handling real‑time staffing decisions, call‑outs, shift coverage, staffing shortages, and workforce allocation Experience supporting nursing operations and inpatient staffing functions Familiarity with staffing ratios, patient census, and acuity‑based staffing concepts Experience communicating with nursing leadership, charge nurses, hospital supervisors, or similar operational stakeholders preferred Technical Skills Scheduling systems and workforce management platforms Epic experience preferred Smart Square, Kronos, UKG, or similar workforce scheduling platforms preferred Microsoft Office Suite Other Requirements Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to make real‑time decisions in a high‑volume environment Ability to manage multiple competing priorities Comfortable working in a metrics‑driven environment Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills Must be able to ramp quickly with minimal training Strong interview presence and communication style Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in a fast‑paced healthcare setting Proof of vaccination required; accommodations may be made for those with disabilities or religious reasons who cannot obtain a vaccine We are an equal‑opportunity employer.
