The Fleet Support Technician is a position within the County Highway Department responsible for supporting the maintenance, reliability, and daily operation of the county's fleet of vehicles and equipment. This role provides hands on technical assistance, parts support, and operational coordination to ensure that vehicles, heavy equipment, and specialized machinery remain in safe, dependable working conditions.The Fleet Support Technician assists mechanics and supervisors by performing minor repairs, assembling and preparing equipment components, maintaining organized inventory levels, and ensuring accurate documentation within the fleet management system. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to read and interpret parts manuals and equipment specifications, competency with computerized inventory and recordkeeping systems, and effective communication skills when working with shop staff, vendors, and field personnel.This role plays a vital part in keeping fleet operations running smoothly by supporting equipment setup and repairs, material management, shop organization, and radio or electronic equipment programming. Frequently uses verbal communication with employees. Sits, stands, bends, reaches, and moves about the office intermittently throughout the day. Handles papers and manuals, etc., lift files, copy paper and other office materials.
