REPORTS TO: Physical Therapist FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt JOB OVERVIEW: Provides Physical Therapy services to patients under the supervision of a Physical Therapist in accordance with state regulations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:Provides Physical Therapy Services to patients by assisting in the assessment, treatment, program planning and implementation, related documentation and communication. Demonstrates competency in the following areas: Duties and Responsibilities. a. Assists the Physical Therapist by obtaining objective data as regulated by LPTA. b. Identifies indications for and assists in evaluations at appropriate intervals under the direction of the Physical Therapist. c. Conducts both individual and group treatment as assigned by the Physical Therapist and outlined in the treatment plan that includes but is not limited to areas of muscle strength, coordination, mobility, sensory awareness, sitting and standing, transfer training, balance activities, gait training, range of motion activities and modalities. d. Assists in the selection of Physical Therapy techniques/media and in the sequence of activities, adapts techniques/media as indicated by patient performance and following consultation with the Physical Therapist. No major modification to the treatment plan is made without prior consultation with the Physical Therapist. e. Monitors patients' response to intervention and consults with Physical Therapist if medication is indicated. f. Monitors patients' response to intervention and consults with Physical Therapist if medication is indicated. g. Adheres to department and patient schedule and modifies as appropriate for treatment regimen. h. Maintains acceptable patient care ratios as determined by the Physical Therapist i. Provides/recommends/fabricates adaptive devices or other equipment; trains patient, family and appropriate staff in the use or application of the above j. Participates in patient, family, and staff education. k. Confers formally and informally with other team members in coordinating the total rehabilitation program of the patient. l. Adheres to Physical Therapy Department procedures regarding documentation of Physical Therapy services. m. Provides treatment in accordance with established standards of practice, department procedures and productivity standards. n. Records billable treatment times according to Physical Therapy Departmento. Consistently demonstrates sound judgment in the evaluation, planning, implementation and follow‑up of patient therapy programs p. Maintains positive relationships and rapport with co-workers, patients, family members and facility personnel. q. Reports to work on time and coordinates schedule to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during assigned shift. r. Assists with and participates in Performance Improvement Program as required. s. Assumes responsibility for ongoing continuing education and professional development. t. Complies with all Infection Control, Universal Precautions and OSHA standards for the healthcare professional. u. Adheres to established confidentiality standard v. Projects a positive and professional image at all times w. Education and Experience: Associates Degree in Physical Therapy Assistant from an accredited program or grandfathered clause PTA. Current Louisiana Physical Therapy Assistant licensure. Current BCLS CertificationLanguage Skills: Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. That means several people work together to restore lost abilities. Each person on the team is a 'discipline.' Physiatrist - The Medical Doctor who provides daily medical supervision of each patient and the treatment team. Physical Therapy - Physical Therapists are specialized in the improvement of mobility and balance, including the ability to transfer between bed and chair, and bath and toilet. Occupational Therapy - Occupational Therapists are focused on the 'Activities of Daily Living' most of us take for granted until we can no longer perform them. Such activities include: getting dressed, eating, bathing and grooming. Speech Therapy - Speech Therapists treat communication problems, swallowing dysfunction, problem solving, and cognitive skill re-building. Medical Social Worker - Social Workers help solve the social needs of the patient and family during a course of treatment and after discharge. Rehabilitation Nursing - Rehabilitation Nurses provide 24/7 care including medication management, pain management, and daily assessment of physical condition.
