Senior Relationship/Trust Advisor, WM

The Senior Relationship Advisor role manages complex wealth management high net worth (HNW) and ultra‑high net worth (UHNW) client relationships, delivering fiduciary and administrative services. The partner assumes primary responsibility for overall client satisfaction by collaborating with service team members and appropriate Northern Trust resources to ensure timely delivery of exceptional service, issue resolution, effective communication of client needs, and coordination with clients’ professional advisors to identify and implement advisory solutions. Responsibilities Manage an assigned base of wealth management clients by collaborating with the client service team, clients, and their professional advisors to develop a thorough understanding of client needs and goals. Provide proactive advice, explain complicated concepts in a clear, non‑technical manner, and offer advisory solutions. Maintain a working knowledge of Northern Trust fiduciary standards and products, and apply fiduciary knowledge and judgment to relationships. Lead client conversations for life‑driven wealth management, addressing emerging issues, regulatory or tax changes, and appropriate actions for the client. Build and maintain relationships with referral sources and external professional advisors to generate new business opportunities. Participate in community and professional organizations representing Northern Trust. Provide leadership on fiduciary projects and committees. Mentor and coach less experienced partners. Implement complex initiatives involving multiple disciplines or ambiguous issues. Qualifications 12–15 years’ experience as a relationship manager in trust administration, estate administration, estate planning, or related fields. Experience working with high net worth (HNW) and ultra‑high net worth (UHNW) clients preferred. Ability to manage a complex portfolio of over a million and/or billions in account‑under‑management (AUM). Strong knowledge of fiduciary practice, tax, legal, and investment products, typically acquired through formal education or related experience. Knowledge of fiduciary standards, principles, and applicable laws and regulations, usually acquired through training, seminars, or law school. Proficient in negotiation, problem solving, delegation, leadership, and sales. JD, CFP, CPWA, or other related professional designations strongly desired. Leadership and organizational skills to plan resources and develop staff capabilities. Authorized to work in the United States; Northern Trust does not sponsor work visas.
