Position Summary

The Lead Clinician oversees clinical services within the mental health department, providing leadership, direct supervision, training and quality assurance for a team of clinicians and behavioral specialists. Ensures that child-facing services are provided on-site and in a confidential manner. This role ensures high-quality client care, maintains strict compliance with Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), state licensing, and internal standards, and provides direct clinical interventions and crisis coverage when needed.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Supervision

• Supervise, train, and coach clinicians and behavioral specialists, including managing work schedules, performance reviews, and clinical case staffing.
• Oversee clinical assessments, treatment planning, and individual, family, and group therapy sessions.
• Conduct weekly team check-ins, monthly supervision meetings, and ongoing staff development programs.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

• Perform daily, weekly, and monthly audits of clinical documentation, treatment plans, and portal uploads (e.g., UC Binders, Extended Reach, UC Portal) to ensure complete compliance.
• Enforce strict adherence to ORR policies, state licensing (CCL), MAP updates, and internal operational procedures.
• Participate in ORR audits and lead the development of Corrective Action Plan (CAP) responses.

Direct Care & Case Management

• Provide direct therapy, biopsychosocial assessments, and crisis interventions as needed.
• Perform specialized clinical tasks, including 5150 involuntary hospitalizations and Tarasoff risk assessments.
• Manage high-risk cases, support youth reunification processes, and participate in intake rotations as backup.

Operations & Coordination

• Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams, sponsors, resource parents, teachers, and external stakeholders.
• Maintain 24/7 availability for urgent case requirements and provide coverage for team members as needed.
• Assist with departmental operations, including data reporting, staff updates, and occasional travel to sister facilities or community events.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Master's or doctorate degree in psychology, social work, counseling, marriage and family counseling, or another relevant behavioral health discipline from an accredited program, university, or college where clinical experience is a program.
• Licensure: Active California license (LCSW, LPCC, LMFT) issued by the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS), or Licensed Psychologist issued by the California Board of Psychology.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of post-licensure experience providing direct mental health care in an agency, residential, or psychiatric setting (outside of private practice). Must have supervisory experience.
• Language: Bilingual in Spanish and English (Required).
• Certifications:
• • Crisis Intervention Certification (required within 90 days of hire).
  • Formal training in trauma-informed or trauma-focused psychotherapy (strongly preferred).
• Additional Requirements:
• • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Successful completion of background check
  • Be able to show proof of immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases transmitted by the respiratory route [i.e.: MMR, Flu, etc.]
  • Valid California Driver’s License, reliable personal vehicle, and active auto insurance for required travel.
  • Flexibility to maintain 24/7 on-call availability as needed and provide coverage during evenings, weekends, or holidays based on case requirements.
