The Division of Adolescent Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine/ Stanford Medicine Children’s Health is recruiting a Clinician Educator with a special interest in the care of people with eating disorders as a Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor. The major criterion for appointment as Clinician Educators is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, teaching, administrative and/or scholarship appropriate to programmatic need the individual will fulfill.

Academic rank and line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Training clinical fellows, residents, and medical students

  • Seeing patients in the inpatient and outpatient specialty care settings in the Division of Adolescent Medicine at the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford (LPCH)

Candidates should have a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.), or equivalent degree, be board certified/eligible in Adolescent Medicine (AAP), completed residency and be board certified in Pediatrics, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine, and be eligible for a California medical license. We are particularly interested in candidates comfortable managing a wide range of medical and developmental-behavioral conditions experienced by adolescents and young adults. We welcome a strong record of accomplishment in scholarship, medical education, advocacy, and/or administration.

The Division of Adolescent Medicine is dedicated to promoting the physical and emotional well-being of adolescents and young adults through clinical care, education, research, leadership, and advocacy. The clinical program is multi-faceted and includes the following:

  • Outpatient clinical care is offered through the Teen and Young Adult Clinic, Adolescent Gynecology Clinic, Eating Disorders Clinic, Gender Clinic, Weight Clinic, the Teen Health Van, and Vaden Student Health Services (Stanford’s college health clinic).

  • A teaching and consult service, featuring a unique inpatient reproductive health service, is active at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.

  • A 15-bed unit cares for patients with eating disorders and other medical/psychiatric illnesses with a multidisciplinary team including an adolescent medicine physician, psychiatrist, psychologist, dietitian, occupational therapist, school teacher, and recreational therapist.

  • The division has strong collaborative relationships across Stanford University including with Santa Clara Juvenile Detention, Stanford Vaden College Health, and Stanford Sports Medicine.

The educational program provides education and training at several levels:

  • The Department of Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine and the Center for Adolescent Health at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital offer a 3-year ACGME accredited fellowship program in Adolescent Medicine.

  • Stanford medical students and pediatric residents rotate through inpatient and outpatient services and gain exposure to a wide array of medical and psychosocial problems encountered by adolescents and young adults from diverse socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds.

Research and scholarly activity within the Division of Adolescent Medicine focuses on understanding and promoting adolescent and young adult health and preventing engagement in health risk behaviors both in the United States and globally. Notable areas of research include:

  • Substance use prevention including school-based tobacco and marijuana prevention and education programs.

  • Medical complications of eating disorders including refeeding syndrome, bone health, and treatment of avoidant/restrictive food intake disorders.

  • Sexual and reproductive health including adolescents’ and young adults’ decision-making, access to and use of contraception, and global sexual health education and advocacy.

  • Adolescent confidentiality including implementation of confidential services in primary care and specialty care clinics and issues related to the policy and practice of documenting confidential care in the electronic health record.

The expected base pay range for this position is:

Clinical Assistant Professor: $214,000 - $227,000

Clinical Associate Professor: $245,000 - $258,000

Clinical Professor: $299,000 - $329,000

This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It does not include all components of the School of Medicine’s faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
