Housekeeping Supervisor

Pay: Start is $20 per hour commensurate based on experience in management.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for supervising, coordinating, and evaluating housekeeping and environmental services staff to ensure the healthcare facility is maintained in a clean, safe, sanitary, and orderly condition.

This position provides daily leadership to housekeeping employees, assigns work, monitors cleaning activities, ensures compliance with infection prevention and facility standards, and promotes a safe environment for patients, residents, visitors, and employees.

The Housekeeping Supervisor serves as a working leader and is expected to demonstrate professionalism, dependability, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to patient safety and quality service leading by example.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervise, schedule, assign, and monitor daily housekeeping activities.
• Ensure patient rooms, resident areas, offices, treatment areas, restrooms, hallways, common areas, and other assigned spaces are properly cleaned and maintained.
• Ensure cleaning procedures are performed according to facility policies, infection prevention practices, and applicable healthcare standards.
• Inspect completed work and take corrective action when cleaning standards are not met.
• Train, orient, coach, and evaluate housekeeping employees.
• Provide employees with clear instructions regarding cleaning procedures, priorities, safety requirements, and infection-control practices.
• Monitor staff attendance, punctuality, productivity, and performance.
• Assist with staffing coverage and adjust assignments as needed based on census, facility needs, emergencies, and employee availability.
• Maintain adequate supplies, equipment, chemicals, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Monitor proper storage, labeling, handling, and use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Ensure housekeeping equipment is properly cleaned, maintained, and reported for repair when necessary.
• Promote proper hand hygiene, PPE use, and other infection-prevention practices.
• Follow procedures for cleaning and disinfecting areas exposed to infectious materials or hazardous substances.
• Respond promptly to spills, accidents, urgent cleaning requests, and other environmental concerns.
• Communicate effectively with nursing, clinical, maintenance, dietary, administration, and other departments.
• Investigate and address patient, resident, visitor, and staff concerns related to housekeeping services.
• Maintain accurate housekeeping records, inspection reports, supply inventories, work schedules, and other required documentation.
• Assist management with quality assurance inspections and performance improvement activities.
• Participate in facility surveys, inspections, emergency preparedness activities, and regulatory compliance efforts as assigned.
• Ensure housekeeping staff follow facility policies regarding confidentiality, professional conduct, safety, and patient/resident rights.
• Assist with special cleaning projects, room turnovers, terminal cleaning, deep cleaning, and other facility needs.
• Maintain appropriate staffing and service levels during emergencies or unusual circumstances.
• Report safety hazards, maintenance issues, infection-control concerns, and other problems to the appropriate department.
• Perform housekeeping duties as needed to maintain department operations.
• Schedule regular housekeeping inspections at the CNR (Transitional Living ) House and provide deep cleaning training and assistance to staff and patients.
• Protect the privacy, dignity, and confidentiality of patients and residents at all times.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Making daily work assignments including regular visits to CNR House.
• Training and orienting new employees.
• Monitoring employee performance.
• Providing coaching and corrective instruction.
• Recommending disciplinary action when appropriate.
• Assisting with employee evaluations.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous housekeeping, environmental services, custodial, or healthcare cleaning experience.
• Previous supervisory or lead experience.
• Ability to read, write, communicate effectively, and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple responsibilities.
• Ability to interact professionally with patients/residents, families, visitors, and employees.
• Ability to learn and follow infection prevention, safety, and chemical-handling procedures.

Preferred:

• Experience in a hospital, nursing facility, rehabilitation center, assisted living facility, behavioral health facility, or other healthcare environment.
• Experience with healthcare cleaning and disinfection procedures.
• Knowledge of OSHA, infection prevention, bloodborne pathogen, and workplace safety practices.
• Previous experience using housekeeping inspection or quality-assurance systems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Stand and walk for extended periods.
• Bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, and lift as necessary to perform housekeeping duties.
• Lift and carry supplies and equipment up to 65lbs
• Operate vacuums, floor equipment, carts, and other housekeeping equipment.
• Perform repetitive physical tasks.
• Work in areas where exposure to cleaning chemicals, bodily fluids, infectious materials, odors, dust, and other environmental conditions may occur.
• Wear required PPE.
• Respond quickly to spills, environmental hazards, and urgent cleaning needs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The Housekeeping Supervisor works throughout the healthcare facility and may be exposed to patients/residents with a variety of medical conditions, infectious diseases, bodily fluids, cleaning chemicals, equipment, and other environmental hazards. The position may require work during evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, or emergency situations based on facility needs.
