Job Title: Mechanical Assembly Technician / Machine Assembler Job Description

The Mechanical Assembly Technician / Machine Assembler builds and tests complex precision machinery that must meet strict dimensional, operating, and quality specifications. In this role, you assemble mechanical components and subassemblies into finished equipment, perform calibrations and alignments, and support final inspection and functional testing to ensure each machine meets performance standards and customer requirements. You apply skilled mechanical principles, advanced assembly techniques, and strong problem-solving skills to complete high-precision builds in a lean manufacturing environment.

• Perform mechanical assembly of complex mechanical units where a high degree of problem-solving, accuracy, and skilled workmanship is required to meet strict inspection, testing, and operating specifications.
• Position, erect, align, and level machinery; assemble and integrate sub-assemblies, units, and separate components to ensure proper mechanical and operational relationships.
• Carry out fitting, aligning, timing, calibrating, and related operations incidental to the mechanical assembly of machines to achieve precise performance and dimensional standards.
• Assemble mechanical components and subassemblies into precision finished equipment following established build schedules and work instructions.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, bills of materials, and detailed work instructions to execute assembly tasks correctly and efficiently.
• Use hand tools and precision measuring instruments such as calipers, gauges, and micrometers to verify dimensions and ensure assemblies meet required tolerances.
• Inspect completed assemblies to confirm they meet quality standards and dimensional tolerances, documenting results as required.
• Identify, document, and escalate assembly discrepancies or non-conformances in accordance with quality procedures.
• Support functional testing and troubleshooting of assembled units, working with the team to diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.
• Maintain accurate build records, traveler documentation, and assembly logs to ensure complete and traceable production history.
• Keep the workstation organized, clean, and compliant with all safety protocols and lean manufacturing practices.
• Perform drilling, tapping, and other machining-related operations required for mechanical assembly.
• Conduct precision mechanical assembly, machine building, and testing activities, including integration of electrical components and wiring as needed.
• Interpret and work from electrical circuits and related documentation when assembling and testing equipment.
• Collaborate with team members, communicate effectively about build status and issues, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

• 35 years of mechanical machine assembly experience.
• 1+ years of mechanical assembly or comparable hands-on manufacturing experience preferred.
• Proven ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and detailed written work instructions.
• Strong attention to detail with a quality-first mindset focused on precision and reliability.
• Basic math skills, including measurements, tolerances, and unit conversions relevant to mechanical assembly.
• Comfort and proficiency using hand tools and precision measuring equipment such as calipers, gauges, and micrometers.
• Demonstrated experience with drilling, tapping, and general machine assembly and machine building.
• Ability to perform precision mechanical assembly and support machine building and testing activities.
• Familiarity with electrical components, electrical assembly, electrical wiring, and basic electrical circuits in the context of machinery assembly.
• Capability to read and interpret blueprints and apply blueprint reading and interpreting skills to complex assemblies.
• Team-oriented mindset with solid communication skills and a solutions-focused approach to problem-solving.
• Physical ability to stand and walk on the production floor for extended periods (up to 810 hours per shift), use fine motor skills and perform repetitive motions, and lift, carry, push, and pull materials up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally (with assistance).
• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach to access equipment and materials, and maintain visual acuity for detailed inspection and assembly work, including use of magnification tools where applicable.

• Experience working in a lean manufacturing environment and following standardized work and continuous improvement practices.
• Background in precision mechanical assembly of complex machinery and equipment.
• Experience with machine building and testing, including integration of mechanical and electrical systems.
• Comfort working from bills of materials and traveler documentation to manage builds and record progress.
• Ability to maintain organized, accurate assembly logs and build records for traceability and quality control.
• Strong sense of ownership and accountability for the quality and performance of assembled equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently at a production station and collaboratively as part of a group.
• Solutions mindset with the ability to troubleshoot mechanical and basic electrical issues during assembly and testing.

This role is based on a manufacturing floor, working individually at a dedicated production station as part of a larger group to perform various operations according to build schedules in a lean manufacturing environment. You will have your own space to assemble equipment and are required to bring your own tools. The standard shift runs from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with a 10-minute break and a 30-minute lunch, and will eventually transition to a 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM schedule once you become more experienced. The work involves regular standing, walking, and moving throughout the production floor for extended periods (up to 810 hours per shift), frequent use of hands for assembling small to medium-sized components with fine motor skills and repetitive motions, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally with assistance. You will bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as needed to access equipment and materials, and rely on strong visual acuity for detailed inspection and assembly work, including use of magnification tools where applicable. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ramsey, NJ.

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $29.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
