Position Summary:

Responsible for the set-up and operation of the heart-lung machine to assume the functions of patient organs during surgery.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the set-up and operation of the heart-lung machine to assume the functions of patient organs during surgery
  • Operates extracorporeal circulation and auto transfusion equipment during any medical situation where it is necessary to support or temporarily replace the patient's circulatory or respiratory function
  • Supports the physiological and metabolic needs of the cardiac surgical patient so that the cardiac surgeon may operate
  • Responsible for the circulatory and respiratory functions of the heart-lung machine
  • Participates in procurement of cardiothoracic donor organs for transplant
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
  • Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited cardiovascular perfusion training program required
  • Bachelor's degree in perfusion technology preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years' perfusion experience
  • Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion
  • BLS Required. Current AHA Healthcare provider, American Red Cross, AHA Health Saver or KH BLS during General Orientation
Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to maintain a standing and position
  • Typical equipment used in a clinical job
  • Must be able to stoop, crouch or bend
  • Must be able to lift or move up to 35 lbs
