Location: A muti-site role, based at Barry, CF63 3RA Your role: A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a SHE Business Partner to join our team based at our Barry site. Health & Safety - Ensure site compliance against company SHE policy through monitoring, site audits, health checks, guidance, and support - Ensure all accidents and incidents are investigated in line with company procedures to establish root cause and implement sustainable preventative control measures - Manage notification and reporting of RIDDOR accidents to the Health and Safety Executive via SHE Management - Track and report weekly accident and incident corrective action completion rates, providing practical problem-solving advice - Develop SHE policies and procedures aligned with company needs and legislative compliance - Develop and lead safety awareness through toolbox talks, safety alerts, and environmental alerts - Develop and maintain site emergency teams, including Fire Wardens and First Aiders, with all associated facilities - Undertake Risk Assessments and Fire Risk Assessments and support the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) - Work with Site Management to ensure control measures are implemented and maintained - Drive continuous improvement through effective leadership of HSCC meetings and action plans aligned to industry best practice - Oversee the development of an effective Health and Safety leadership team and Employee Safety Representatives across the region - Collate SHE audit data periodically and support sites in resolving identified actions - Provide practical and sustainable problem resolution to ensure a safe working environment - Act as the SHE lead for the nominated region - Collate and analyse performance metrics to provide periodic SHE reports to line management, Directors, and Site Managers - Support business projects through review of Risk Assessments and Method Statements, advising on SHE requirements - Log and monitor regional compliance with LOLER, DSEAR, COSHH (LEV), and PSSR - Liaise with external authorities where required - Support site leadership to ensure environmental processes comply with UK legislative requirements - Coordinate with site management to drive waste reduction and recycling initiatives - Oversee site waste management and environmental record keeping General - Promote a positive SHE culture - Drive a “can do” attitude through effective problem resolution - Ensure all communications and guidance documents are clear, concise, and audience-appropriate - Undertake any reasonable management request Job Summary - Lead SHE initiatives, drive a proactive accident prevention approach, and promote a positive Health and Safety culture across the business Performance Measures - On-time reporting of accidents and incidents - Completion of accident and incident investigations within specified timescales Performance Measures - Improvement of site audit scores - Updating and completion of Risk Assessments and SOPs - Reduction in accidents, lost days, and frequency rates - RIDDOR reduction and compliance reporting - Promotion of incident reporting and corrective actions - Management of statutory inspection compliance across the region - Periodic collation of regional SHE metrics - Delivery of Health, Safety, and Environmental training - Management of environmental compliance across the region Personal Specification Experience - Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an SHE role within a Manufacturing or Logistics environment - ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 auditing experience - Comprehensive understanding of Health and Safety legislation - Understanding of environmental aspects and impacts Experience - Excellent people management and relationship-building skills - Comfortable working independently or as part of a team across diverse environments - Ideally a qualified member of a recognised HSE professional body (e.g. IOSH) - Practical, hands‑on approach with the ability to lead change Education / Qualifications - NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum) - NVQ Level 5 H&S or NEBOSH Diploma (desired) - IEMA Level 3 Environmental qualification or equivalent (desired) - PUWER / DSEAR awareness (desired) - Good standard of written and numerical literacy Critical Skills - Ability to collate, analyse, and interpret data for trend analysis - Strong interpersonal skills for engaging with customers and employees - Excellent communication skills with a consultative management style - Decisive decision-making and effective delegation - Team-focused with strong oral, written, and presentation skills - Effective time management and motivation to maintain site presence - Strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office application Who we are: BSW Group is the largest timber and forestry business in the UK, with operating divisions spanning the whole supply chain, from tree nurseries and woodland management to sawmilling and pallets.
