Director, Data Science - Hybrid

Merck seeks a Director of Data Science to lead analytics and data enablement strategies across therapeutic areas. This role establishes governance frameworks, drives cross-functional collaboration, and advances analytical methodologies while mentoring teams and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute therapeutic-area data enablement and analytics strategies aligned with organizational objectives
- Design and oversee automated data and analytics pipelines ensuring scalability, quality, and regulatory compliance
- Lead and mentor analytics team members; strengthen organizational analytics maturity through capability development
- Drive adoption of emerging technologies (AI/ML, advanced visualization) and promote analytical best practices across programs
- Partner with clinical, data management, and IT teams to ensure cohesive, interoperable analytics processes
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or health-related field with 10+ years relevant experience; OR Master's/Doctorate with 8+ years
- Expert knowledge of analytics governance frameworks and enterprise data strategy implementation
- Advanced proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, Spotfire)
- Deep expertise in clinical data standards (CDISC, SDTM) and regulatory compliance (GxP, 21 CFR Part 11)
- Demonstrated people management skills and experience leading large analytics teams or programs
- Ability to translate complex analytical insights into strategic business recommendations for senior leadership
