Grants and Special Projects Manager

JOB STATEMENT/PURPOSE The Grants and Special Projects Manager is responsible for sourcing, preparing and writing grants to foundations, corporations, and governmental agencies on behalf of the ANHC and in accordance with our strategic plan. Working with the President, Operations, Advancement and Program staff, grants are prepared for both capital projects and operating programs of the Heritage Center. This position also prepares progress reports, working with the Finance Department in generating financial reports, to entities that have provided grants to the Center. Recognize and carry through on other fundraising opportunities. Responsible for the timely administration of grant reporting, directly and in support of and in collaboration with Program and Finance Staff. This position also supports special projects, strategic initiatives, and cross-departmental efforts that advance the mission, sustainability, and long-term growth of the Alaska Native Heritage Center. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Development, Research and Planning Research funding sources using Internet, professional publications, and other sources. Review guidelines to determine feasibility of grant opportunities. Make recommendations and coordinate any necessary follow-up. Support special projects and strategic initiatives that align with organizational priorities, community needs, and long-term sustainability goals. Collaborate interdepartmentally to identify funding opportunities and develop projects that support programs, capital improvements, cultural initiatives, and organizational growth. Assist in developing funding strategies for emerging organizational initiatives and special projects. Proposal Write grant proposals or letters of intent to foundations, corporations, and government agencies on behalf of ANHC. Determine measurable goals and objectives of projects, substantiating the need for programs within the community and culture. Through collaboration, determine procedures the organization intends to use to carry out program objectives. Write letters of intent, adapting each proposal to the unique specifications of the funder as described through their guidelines. Coordinate with internal departments, community partners, consultants, and contractors as needed to gather information and support proposal development for special initiatives and projects. Assist with preparation of funding narratives, presentations, and supporting materials related to strategic organizational projects. Reporting Maintain a detailed database to include all data collections and reporting matters. Consistently advise on and review matters of data collection to ensure grant guidelines are being met. Assist staff with required reporting for funding agencies to meet deadlines and ensure accuracy. Track and support reporting requirements for special projects and restricted funding initiatives. Assist with compiling organizational impact data, storytelling, and outcomes related to funded projects and initiatives. Compliance and Coordination Interpret guidelines and instructions for grant preparation issued by potential funders. Promote collaborative relationships with individuals and organizations. Assist staff members and departments with information requests regarding funding, collaboration, partnerships, and opportunities. Support organizational coordination and administrative efforts related to strategic partnerships, special initiatives, and community collaborations. Participate in cross-departmental planning efforts to help advance organizational priorities and special projects. Assist leadership with funding-related communications, project coordination, and strategic opportunities as needed. ESSENTIAL SKILLS Minimum two years grant writing experience, or directly related experience and/or education. Bachelor’s degree along with continuing education and experience in related field. Ability to perform complex tasks and prioritize multiple projects. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office, Outlook, Internet-based research). Strong writing, editing, and proofreading capability. Experience with software relating to fundraising and grant tracking. Commitment to Alaska Native Heritage Center mission and vision. Familiarity with Alaska Native cultures. Experience managing multiple deadlines, projects, and organizational priorities simultaneously. Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners on special initiatives and projects. Experience supporting strategic planning, project coordination, or organizational development initiatives preferred. Knowledge Knowledge of federal, state, municipal, and private funding sources and mechanisms Knowledge to utilize standard Microsoft Office Suite applications and conduct Internet-based research Skills Advanced organizing and coordinating skills Records maintenance skills Abilities Ability to prepare reports and proposals Ability to develop budgets and spreadsheets for budget preparation and analysis Ability to analyze budgetary line items for compliance with budget guidelines Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES Additional duties as assigned based on needs of the business.
