CHILD PROTECTION SPECIALIST

Overview Position: Child Protection Specialist – DCFS. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services seeks an organized, professional, and results-oriented individual to help protect children and support families. Essential Functions Serves as Child Protection Specialist Prepares and maintains a variety of reports, assessments, and case documentation Selects, summarizes, and presents case material for transfer to permanency caseworker or intact/prevention caseworker Translates and interprets for Spanish-speaking clients regarding services and form completion Determines the need for and coordinates placement of children in substitute care facilities Attends multi-disciplinary diagnostic and technical staff conferences to assess needed services Transports clients when taking protective custody, placing them in substitute care, or changing placement location Performs other duties as reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above Minimum Qualifications Options include: Master’s degree in social work Master’s degree in a related human service field, criminal justice/criminal justice administration, or related field with one year of directly related professional experience Bachelor’s degree in social work with one year of directly related professional experience Bachelor’s degree in a related human service field (criminal justice, criminal justice administration, or law enforcement) with two years of directly related professional experience Requires ability to speak and write Spanish at a colloquial skill level The degree must be from an accredited institution; the social work program must be approved by the Council on Social Work Education.
