Job Announcement Maintenance Mechanic I Job Description Under supervision and direction of the Director of Maintenance and Operations, the Mechanic I will performskilled and semi-skilled work in several trades in maintenance and repair of buildings, building systems,building fixtures, and equipment; and perform related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Positions in this class are assigned a variety of tasks in the building trades. Work requires the use of tools and the ability to perform operations in the areas of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, flooring, roofing, and paintingtrades. May work with journeyman technicians as an assistant, or work independently on non-journey levelprojects as assigned. Individuals in this position will also be involved in cleaning tasks related to the assigned maintenance jobs. The ability to work independently at semi-skilled maintenance repairs is essential.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: General knowledge of standard practices, codes, tools, materials and processes of the majorbuilding trades. An emphasis in one or more of the trades is desirable. Occupational hazards and proper safety procedures. Experience: Minimum two years experience performing general building maintenance work. Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. License: Possession of a valid California driver's license. Upon Conditional Offer of Employmen t DOJ and FBI Criminal Background Check TB Test within the last 60 days (Education Code 49406, Assembly Bill 1667) Complete district training on Mandated Reporter, Covid 19, and Sexual Harassment Pre-Employment Physical Evaluation conducted through the District. Demonstrate sufficient strength, mobility, and range of motion to arm lift 50 pounds and floor lift 50 pounds. Significant Physical Abilities: With or without the use of aids, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, sufficient strength to lift non-ambulatory students, lift and move adaptive equipment, and physically restrain and control a student up to 200 poundswith assistance, sufficient body movement and mobility to demonstrate gross motor activities, climb in and out of cars,vans, and buses, to walk and run with students, climb well enough to go up and down stairs, to maneuver students intoand out of vehicles, wheelchairs, and toilets, sufficient vision to read printed material, with or without aids, sufficienthearing to hear normal and telephone conversations with or without aids, ability to speak in an understandable voice withsufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation, manual dexterity to write and use telephone and otherbusiness/office machines.The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasionallifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, climbing and balancing; stooping, kneeling, crouching; reaching, understanding, andfollowing oral and written directions.
