This Medical Assistant position offers the opportunity to provide both clinical and administrative support in a busy pediatric outpatient practice. You will work closely with pediatric patients and their families, support multiple pediatric specialties, and contribute to a collaborative care team while performing both front and back office duties in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform both front and back office duties as a Certified Medical Assistant, including clinical support and administrative tasks.

• Record accurate and up-to-date patient information, medical histories, and medication lists in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.

• Obtain and document patient vital signs and prepare exam rooms, including room setup and inventory management.

• Sterilize and maintain reusable instruments according to established protocols.

• Run, process, and verify lab work as directed by clinical staff.

• Assist with triage and patient care activities within scope of practice.

• Schedule and manage patient appointments and support daily patient flow.

• Help answer and route phone calls, providing professional and courteous customer service.

• Support pediatric providers across multiple specialties such as behavioral health, cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, genetics, growth and nutrition, hematology/oncology, nephrology, neurology, and pulmonary.

• Work effectively in a high-volume environment, supporting care for approximately 40–50 patients per day.

• Collaborate with clinical and administrative team members to ensure efficient, patient-centered care.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with clinic policies and procedures.

Essential Skills

• Current Medical Assistant certification (CMA, CCMA, or equivalent) from an accredited school; NPCE-accepted programs are acceptable.

• 6 months to 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient environment.

• Demonstrated passion for and comfort with working in pediatrics.

• Proficiency in medical assisting, including taking vitals, assisting with patient care, and supporting clinical workflows.

• Ability to perform administrative tasks such as appointment scheduling and basic front desk duties.

• Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems, preferably Epic.

• Knowledge of medical terminology and basic triage processes.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

• Strong customer service skills and ability to interact professionally with patients and families.

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume clinical setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a pediatric setting or with pediatric patients.

• Experience supporting multiple specialties within an outpatient practice.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation and inventory management.

• Ability to multitask and prioritize in a dynamic environment with varying patient volumes.

• Comfort using EMR systems and adapting to new technologies and workflows.

• Excellent verbal communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.

• Interest in long-term career growth within a large hospital system environment.

Work Environment

This role is based in a small pediatric outpatient office with two locations on the same floor. The practice supports approximately 40–50 patients per day and includes around ten pediatric specialties, offering broad exposure to diverse clinical conditions. The environment is fast-paced, team-oriented, and focused on delivering compassionate care to children and their families. The position follows a weekday schedule with no weekend hours. Weekly hours may vary, with some weeks around 30 hours and other weeks exceeding 40 hours depending on patient flow. You will work with electronic medical records (including Epic), standard medical assisting equipment, and pediatric-specific clinical tools in a professional clinical setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hanover, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
