Summary

The Laboratory Supervisor oversees the Mechanical Testing Laboratory and supervises the Laboratory Technicians to operate efficiently and meet the testing demands of the various departments in a timely and accurate manner.

Responsibility for Safety, Health & Environmental

• Individual is expected to perform job duties safely and in compliance with work instructions outlined in the Safety, Health & Emergency manual.
• Organize Monthly Safety Meetings with the Laboratory Technicians to discuss safety policies in the laboratory, get input for improvements, identify problem areas, general discussion, etc.
• Actively participate in Monthly Safety Meetings and perform audits as scheduled by the Safety Department.
• Actively participate in Cross Functional Safety Audits on an annual basis as scheduled by the Safety Department.

• Individual is expected to perform job duties in compliance with defined management system requirements.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Supervises the Laboratory Technicians.
• Coordinates mechanical testing requests from Product Development, Manufacturing, and other Laboratories within our organization.
• Contributes to and participates in the development and implementation of processes, work instructions and test methods to satisfy corporate compliance to defined management system.
• Be on call for lab emergencies such as broken equipment.
• Manage spare parts for the lab equipment that is known to break. Possibly strip broken or outdated equipment of salvageable parts.
• Reviews all Test Results for accuracy, determines if any additional testing is required, signs off on final testing to the Quality Managers at each division.
• Acquire Technical knowledge of all laboratory equipment and Test Methods utilized in the Mechanical Testing Laboratory.
• Preventative maintenance, ordering lab supplies/equipment, ensure calibration schedules are met to prevent equipment an out of calibration situation (schedule with Calibrating Company before
expiration).
• Make decisions regarding staffing of the lab for day-to-day operation.
• Back-up Laboratory Technical Manager, Laboratory Testing Supervisor, and Laboratory Calibration/Maintenance Supervisor. Assist Lab Technicians with duties as necessary.
• Performs other duties and assignments as directed by Lab Manager.

Recommended Qualifications

• High School Diploma with a minimum of 3 years of Laboratory experience. A 4-year technical degree with a minimum of 1 year Laboratory experience is preferred.
• Trained in the operation and theory of testing equipment and laboratory techniques is preferred.
• Skilled in the use of basic computer software, including word-processing, spreadsheets, graphics, and statistical programs.

Working Conditions:

• Laboratory Environment
