Associate Dean - Public Safety

Key Roles & Responsibilities Under the direction of the assigned Dean, exercise direct leadership of Public Safety instructional programs, including Administration of Justice, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program, Fire Academy, Fire Technology, Paramedic Program, and POST Academies for Levels II & III. Implement the division's vision, develop goals, and oversee schedule, improvement, evaluation, and coordination of all program elements. Foster a culture of collaboration, mutual respect, innovation, and continuous improvement. Lead by example, support college-wide shared governance, and promote an organizational culture of customer service, teamwork, and innovation. Functional Responsibilities Assist the Dean with leading the division, developing long‑range plans, curriculum development, and scheduling. Coordinate non‑credit and short‑term industry courses, monitor productivity, and allocate resources. Work with faculty and staff to ensure programs meet workforce needs, analyze labor market data, and evaluate alignment. Handle student petitions and complaints, develop policies, and collaborate with advisory councils and employers. Represent the Dean at meetings and committees, assist in grant proposals, secure funding, and manage hiring, supervising, training, and evaluating faculty and staff. Resolve conflicts, maintain fiscal responsibility, and monitor budgets and grants while ensuring compliance with district policies. Organization Management Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of regulations, policies, and eligibility criteria. Strengthen processes through assessment, review, planning, and resource allocation. Train, supervise, motivate, and evaluate direct reports. Implement efficient use of facilities, comply with health and safety regulations, and modernize technology infrastructure. Required Qualifications Education: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: One year of formal training or leadership experience related to the assignment; and one year of teaching experience in a related field. Desired Qualifications Education and experience equivalent to a full‑time teaching position at a higher education institution, plus additional leadership experience. Knowledge & Areas of Expertise Labor market and workforce trends analysis. Accreditation and regulatory requirements for California State Fire Marshal, POST, EMT, and Paramedic training. CTE and workforce development initiatives (Strong Workforce, Adult Education, PERKINS). Grants, budgeting, and project management. Articulation, Guided Pathways, and applicable state/federal regulations. Curriculum development processes. Grant and contract administration, budget monitoring and control. Adult learning and non‑traditional learner best practices. Standard Occupational Classification system terminology. Principles of administration and supervision. Community college CTE certificate and degree curriculum development and approval processes. Abilities & Skills Willingness to travel, including occasional overnight stays. Effective oral and written communication. Collaboration and teamwork. Alignment of programs with industry and workforce needs. Flexible work hours, including evenings and weekends. Timely, detail‑oriented performance. Planning and organization. Administrative organization and management practices. Program and personnel assessment and evaluation. Work Environment & Physical Demands Standard office setting with frequent interruptions. Duties performed primarily while seated at a desk or computer. Incumbents may need to travel on campus and to external meetings. Physical demands include standing, walking, using handheld devices, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Salary Starting salary range: $150,576 annually. Salary increases granted on the first day of each month following a year of service, up to Step 6 ($174,576 annually).
