Adjunct - Nursing Clinical Instructor

Overview Mountain Empire Community College is a comprehensive two-year college serving residents of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson counties, and the City of Norton. MECC is one of twenty-three colleges in the Virginia Community College System and operates under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Local Advisory Board. The college is primarily funded by state funds with supplementary local contributions. We invite applications for adjunct instructors to teach Clinical Nursing in a hospital environment. Applicants should be available for daytime, evenings, and/or weekends. Salary is based on educational preparation and work experience, determined by the VCCS Adjunct Pay Schedule and faculty ranking profile. Duties and Tasks Teach specific classes in the designated discipline in a classroom, virtual, or clinical setting to students with diverse academic backgrounds. Develop course syllabi and instructional materials, delivering high‑quality instruction, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment, and actively contributing to the academic, professional, and community life of the college. Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress. Adhere to MECC policies, procedures, and regulations while emphasizing instructional excellence through innovative teaching, curriculum development, and assessment. Maintain current competence in the discipline or field of specialization, committing to continuous professional growth aligned with the college’s mission and goals. Essential Functions As part of the primary responsibility to provide quality instruction, the College expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts; and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations. Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in nursing with demonstrated competency to teach in the RN program; associate’s degree with competency to teach in the LPN program if working on a bachelor’s degree. Must hold a current license or multi‑state licensure privilege to practice nursing in Virginia as a registered nurse. Have had two years of direct client‑care experience as a registered nurse. Maintain documentation of professional competence through activities such as nursing practice, education programs, conferences, etc. For supervising the clinical practice of students, faculty must meet the licensure requirements of the specialty in which that practice occurs. Additional Considerations Teaching experience in college‑level courses. Experience with online learning. Strong written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to incorporate technology routinely into instructional and faculty responsibilities. Demonstrated ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
