Senior Videographer & Editor | JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Senior Videographer &Editor
Team: Marketing & Communications
Location: In-Person in NYC
Employment Type: Full-time
FLSA Classification: Exempt
Start Date: ASAP
Hiring Manager: Managing Director, Social & Content Strategy

ABOUT REFORM ALLIANCE

REFORM , founded in the wake of the #FreeMeek movement, is committed to transforming probation and parole throughout the United States by changing laws, systems, and culture. The organization is working to replace America’s criminal justice system with a restorative approach that is fair, accountable, and invested in rehabilitation. Our goal is for people to reenter society with dignity, create meaningful pathways to work, and equip them with the tools to succeed all while making families and communities safer and stronger.

ABOUT THE ROLE

REFORM is hiring a Senior Videographer & Editor to capture, edit, and deliver high-quality visual content across our marketing and communications channels while leading the technical operations of our in-house content production capabilities.

This is a hands-on production role for a skilled visual storyteller who can move fluidly between the field, the edit, and the studio. The Senior Videographer/Editor will serve as REFORM’s lead in-house shooter and editor, capturing interviews, events, advocacy work, community stories, executive content, social-first content, and other key moments across the organization.

The Senior Videographer/Editor will also serve as the technical lead for REFORM’s content production operation. This person will manage our in-house content studio and production equipment, establish technical standards and workflows, and help ensure the Marketing & Communications team stays current on new production technologies, tools, editing techniques, and emerging content formats.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical craft with excellent visual instincts. They understand camera, lighting, audio, composition, editing, color, and sound, and know how to translate an established creative direction into compelling finished content. They are curious about how visual storytelling is evolving and can identify new tools, technologies, formats, and production techniques that REFORM should test or adopt.

Working closely with the Senior Producer, the Senior Videographer/Editor will help create an efficient production and post-production operation, ensuring footage and finished assets are captured, organized, edited, archived, and delivered at a consistently high standard.

This role is on the Marketing & Communications team and reports to the Managing Director, Social & Content Strategy.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Shoot & Capture Content (40%)

  • Serve as REFORM’s lead in-house videographer + editor across interviews, events, campaigns, advocacy initiatives, community storytelling, executive content, social content, and other productions.
  • Execute established creative concepts, briefs, shot lists, and production plans in partnership with the Senior Producer and creative and content leads.
  • Operate professional camera, lighting, and audio equipment across studio, office, event, and field environments.
  • Make strong technical and visual decisions around composition, framing, camera movement, lighting, exposure, and sound.
  • Capture content with multiple formats and uses in mind, including social-first, vertical, horizontal, long-form, short-form, and evergreen applications.
  • Identify and capture additional footage, B-roll, reactions, environmental moments, and visual details that strengthen the final story.
  • Conduct or support the technical execution of interviews, including camera, lighting, audio, and framing.
  • Adapt quickly to changing conditions when capturing live events, community activations, legislative moments, breaking news, and other unscripted environments.
  • Maintain a consistent level of visual quality across REFORM’s content.

Edit & Finish Content (30%)

  • Edit short-form and long-form video content for social, digital, campaigns, events, presentations, and other organizational needs.
  • Translate creative direction and editorial feedback into polished final videos.
  • Select strong footage, performances, interview moments, music, and B-roll to construct compelling edits.
  • Handle color correction, sound mixing, captions, graphics, formatting, and other finishing needs.
  • Create multiple cuts, versions, and platform-specific adaptations from existing footage.
  • Develop efficient workflows for fast-turn and real-time content without sacrificing quality.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Producer to manage edit schedules, review rounds, approvals, and final delivery.
  • Prepare and deliver final assets according to established technical specifications and platform requirements.
  • Maintain organized project files so edits can be easily revisited, updated, or repurposed.
  • Experiment with new editing techniques and formats that can strengthen REFORM’s visual storytelling.

Lead Studio, Equipment & Production Technology (10%)

  • Own the day-to-day management and operation of REFORM’s in-house content studio, ensuring it remains organized, functional, production-ready, and equipped to support the team’s content needs.
  • Manage REFORM’s inventory of cameras, lenses, lighting, audio, storage, accessories, and other production equipment.
  • Establish systems for equipment inventory, maintenance, check-in and check-out, storage, repairs, replacements, and upgrades.
  • Establish and maintain technical standards for camera settings, audio capture, lighting, file formats, storage, post-production, exports, and final delivery.
  • Identify equipment, software, and technology needs and recommend investments based on production priorities and available resources.
  • Stay current on advancements in cameras, lighting, audio, editing software, artificial intelligence tools, mobile production, remote production, and other relevant production technologies.
  • Monitor emerging editing styles, production techniques, aspect ratios, platform specifications, and content formats across social and digital media.
  • Regularly share relevant technical developments, recommendations, and best practices with the broader content and marketing team.
  • Test and evaluate new production tools, technologies, editing techniques, and formats and recommend opportunities for REFORM to adopt them.
  • Develop documentation, templates, presets, and technical workflows that make production more efficient and maintain consistency across the team.
  • Help train team members on equipment, studio capabilities, production tools, and technical best practices when appropriate.
  • Ensure the studio and production operation can support both planned productions and timely, rapid-response content needs.

Manage Production Assets (10%)

  • Partner with the Senior Producer to maintain an organized library of raw footage, project files, photography, audio, graphics, and finished assets.
  • Follow and help improve file naming, metadata, folder structures, version control, backup, and archival practices.
  • Ingest, organize, label, back up, and archive footage following each production.
  • Prepare and package footage or project files for freelancers, agencies, production companies, and other external collaborators when needed.
  • Support the Senior Producer in evaluating external shooters, editors, photographers, and other technical production resources.
  • Work collaboratively with external crews and production partners while maintaining REFORM’s visual and technical standards.

Other Duties as Assigned (10%)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 3 years of professional experience shooting and editing video content.
  • Strong portfolio or reel demonstrating experience with interviews, social content, events, documentary or editorial storytelling, and other digital video formats.

  • Strong knowledge of professional audio recording for interviews, events, and field production.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro or comparable professional editing software.
  • Experience with color correction, sound editing and mixing, captions, graphics, and video finishing.
  • Experience managing professional production equipment and maintaining an in-house studio or comparable production environment.
  • Experience managing footage, project files, storage, backups, and post-production workflows.
  • Ability to independently operate camera, lighting, and audio equipment on smaller productions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience managing a studio, equipment inventory, or internal production operation.
  • Strong understanding of how framing, pacing, hooks, captions, sound, aspect ratios, and formats differ across social and digital platforms.
  • Experience creating both polished campaign content and fast-turn social content.

  • Motion graphics and animation capabilities are a plus.
  • Professional photography and photo-retouching experience are a plus.
