CAD Technician

CAD Technician – Truck Upfit Facility – Job DescriptionThe CAD Technician is responsible for creating and maintaining engineering drawings, 3D models, and supporting production operations. This position works closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure products are accurately designed, documented, and manufactured efficiently. The ideal candidate combines strong CAD drafting skills and a solid understanding of manufacturing processes.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:CAD Design and DraftingProduction SupportPerform other duties as assigned.Create, modify, and maintain 2D engineering drawings and 3D models using CAD software. Develop detailed manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings. Interpret engineering concepts, sketches, specifications, and customer requirements. Manage drawing revisions and maintain document control procedures. Verify drawing accuracy and compliance with company standards. Support engineering change orders (ECOs) and continuous improvement initiatives.Work closely with production personnel to resolve manufacturing and quality issues. Assist in developing manufacturing processes and work instructions. Support prototype, new product introduction, and production projects. Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities. Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and manufacturing standards.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:Associate degree or technical certificate in CAD Technology, Drafting, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field.Proficiency with AutoCAD and SolidWorks platforms.Strong understanding of manufacturing practices.Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.Effective communication and teamwork abilities.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:2+ years of experience in CAD drafting and CNC programming.Experience with ERP, PDM, or PLM systems.Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:CAD Design and DraftingManufacturing Process ImprovementProblem SolvingAttention to DetailProject OrganizationCross-Functional CollaborationCULTURAL COMPETENCIES:Self-motivated, driven, and proactiveTeam-oriented, coachable, and respectfulStrong interpersonal awareness and communicationAccountability Continuous ImprovementMindset Collaboration and Relationship BuildingWORKING CONDITIONS:Combination of office and manufacturing floor environment.Frequent computer-based design and programming work.Periodic exposure to machining and manufacturing operations.Occasional lifting and shop-floor support activities as required.PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:This role requires frequent movement around the shop floor, direct interaction with employees, and a hands-on approach to supervision. Exposure to noise, tools, and moving vehicles is common. Occasional lifting of heavy equipment may be necessary.
