POSITION SUMMARY:

The Varsity Girls Basketball Assistant Coach will assist the Varsity Head Coach in leading, developing, and supporting the girls basketball program. The Assistant Coach will contribute to a positive team culture, assist with the development of student-athlete skills, promote high standards of sportsmanship and teamwork, and support the overall goals and philosophy of the Tri County Area Schools athletic program.

The Assistant Coach will work collaboratively with the Varsity Head Coach, coaching staff, Athletic Department, student-athletes, parents, and school administration while adhering to district policies, MHSAA requirements, and applicable athletic guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

• Prior coaching experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of basketball rules, fundamentals, techniques, and strategies
• Ability to work cooperatively as part of a coaching staff
• Ability to motivate, mentor, and positively support student-athletes
• Knowledge of MHSAA policies and regulations preferred
• Ability to communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, coaches, and school staff
• Ability to support and carry out the philosophy and expectations established by the Varsity Head Coach and Tri County Area Schools
• CPR/AED certification

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Assist the Varsity Head Coach with all aspects of the girls basketball program.
• Assist with planning and conducting practices, drills, conditioning, and skill-development activities.
• Coach and develop student-athletes in the fundamental skills necessary for successful participation in basketball.
• Assist with player development and provide individualized instruction as directed by the Varsity Head Coach.
• Encourage participation, development, and advancement of younger players within the basketball program.
• Assist with game preparation, scouting, strategy, and game-day responsibilities as assigned by the Varsity Head Coach.
• Promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, respect, accountability, and positive behavior among student-athletes.
• Help establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and supportive team culture.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with student-athletes, parents, coaches, school staff, and the Athletic Department.
• Support and follow the philosophy, expectations, policies, and procedures of Tri County Area Schools and the athletic program.
• Work cooperatively with the Varsity Head Coach, other assistant coaches, athletic trainer, Athletic Director, and school administration.
• Assist with supervision of student-athletes during practices, games, tournaments, and other basketball-related activities.
• Assist with the care, organization, and proper use of team equipment, supplies, and facilities.
• Help maintain accurate equipment and inventory records as assigned.
• Assist with fundraising activities and other program-related events.
• Promote positive relationships between the basketball program, Tri County Area Schools, families, and the community.
• Attend required practices, games, meetings, clinics, and other activities associated with the position.
• Maintain professional conduct and serve as a positive role model for student-athletes.
• Perform other duties related to the basketball program as assigned by the Varsity Head Coach or Athletic Director.
