Flight Nurse/Paramedic | Kearney Nebraska, United States Job Description Air Methods is looking for current Nebraska paramedics to fill this role. $20,000 Sign On Bonus, Travel Pay, Per Diem, and Off Duty Housing Provided. Bringing a minimum of 36 months of experience in a busy 911 transport or flight setting within the last 5 years, your expertise will be invaluable. Your responsibilities will encompass assessment, triage, and treatment, ensuring the safe transport of critical patients to the appropriate medical facility. Responsibilities Provide high‑quality pre‑hospital advanced life support including assessment, triage, and treatment utilizing standards and guidelines established by Air Methods Community Based Services (CBS) Medical Director(s). Carry out the mission and goals of Air Methods CBS ensuring safety remains the highest priority throughout the transport continuum. Maintain thorough patient care documentation from initial contact until care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility. Practice within your scope of practice as defined by state regulation and Air Methods CBS. Maintain competency in knowledge and psychomotor skills by participating in ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences. Communicate educational needs to the Medical Base Supervisor and Medical Education Coordinator. Maintain documentation of required licensure, certifications, continuing education, aviation and safety training, OSHA and HIPAA training, clinical rotations, and advanced procedures. Attend a minimum of six educational programs per year pertinent to your practice. Know how to use and maintain all equipment and supplies used by Air Methods CBS. Report medical equipment failures and take initial steps to insure repair as directed. Maintain adequate supplies onboard aircraft and keep the aircraft clean and orderly. Participate in patient and referring institution follow‑up and planned outreach, senateing, and education activities. Attend pre‑mission briefings, mission debriefings, and complete necessary documentation. Assist in pre‑mission liftoff checklist and assistance to pilot as requested. Comply with safety standards for self, medical personnel, patient, and equipment. Conduct aircraft safety briefings as needed. Serve as a flight resource to neonatal/pediatric personnel when transporting specialty patients by helicopter. Perform advanced skills and procedures as approved by Air Methods CBS Medical Director(s). Serve as a role model, educator, and clinical resource. Participate in departmental activities, projects, and committees including research and publishing opportunities. Stay aware of current issues related to pre‑hospital care through professional activities. Perform other duties as assigned. Additional Job Requirements Reside more than 4 hours from the assigned location and provide scheduling flexibility for up to 14‑day assignments. Maintain flexibility of assigned base location, subject to change. Indicate the percentage of time spent traveling > 50%. Follow Air Methods’ employment practices and policies, and be regularly present. Qualifications High school diploma or GED and at least three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree in a health‑related field preferred. Minimum three (3) years’ recent experience in a busy 911 system. Previous critical care transport and flight experience preferred. One year of full‑time flight experience required for per diem (PRN) positions. Operation and Safety Requirements Maintain a weight not to exceed 225 pounds including empty flight suit and boots. Skills Practice skills as defined by state scope of practice and advanced skills as defined by Medical Director(s). Positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals, and the public. High critical‑thinking, reasoning, and attention to detail in a fast‑paced environment. Ability to prioritize and multitask. Work a flexible schedule including 24‑hour shifts, overtime, and on‑call rotation. Dependable and self‑motivated in a frequently changing environment. Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal. Computer skills: Proficient with Microsoft Suite. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Registered EMT‑P licensed in state(s) served. National Certification may be required to meet state licensure requirements. Specialty certification (FP‑C or CCP‑C) required within two (2) years of hire. Current certifications in BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent; advanced provider ITLS or PHTLS if required. Advance trauma course: one of TNCC, ATLS/ATCN, TNATC, or CAMTS‑approved course before third rider orientation. NRP certification before third rider orientation.
