Job Title: Registered Nurse - Cardiac Stepdown Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience License: Required Certifications: - BLS - ACLS - NIHSS Must-Have: - Cardiac experience preferred - EPIC experience required - Stepdown and Medsurg/Tele experience required Description: The unit has a total of 32 beds, consisting of 22 stepdown beds and 10 floor beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio for stepdown is 1:3, and for floor patients, it is 1:5 or 1:6. RNs are required to titrate drips, including Heparin, insulin, nitroglycerin, Cardizem, nicardipine, Lasix, amiodarone, and dobutamine. There is a dedicated charge nurse for the unit during the shift. Three house supervisors are present in the facility at all times. The goal is to have a free charge nurse, but depending on staffing numbers, they may have a patient assignment of 1-3 patients. Clinical associates assist on the unit, with staffing typically at a ratio of 1:16 overnight due to budget constraints, but ideally, it is 1:8 when fully staffed. Respiratory equipment includes NC, CPAP, BiPAP, and HFNC, with dedicated RT support for the floor. Tele techs monitor and record tele strips from a central location, using Phillips monitoring systems. Self-scheduling and block scheduling are generally flexible. Weekend requirements include working Saturdays and Sundays, along with Fridays and Mondays, within a four-week schedule period. Holiday requirements include working either an eve or a day for major holidays. The position does involve floating to other areas as needed, with a rotational pull to floor assignments. Scrub color is royal blue. Unit-specific orientation is provided.
