Medical Laboratory Scientist II - Perth Amboy, NJ, On-Call Quest Diagnostics is hiring a Medical Laboratory Scientist II in Perth Amboy, NJ. This is a hospital-based position at Raritan Bay. Pay range: $32.00 – $50.73 per hour. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive an annual performance bonus. On‑call employees are eligible for: 401(k) pre‑tax and/or Roth IRA with company match up to 5% after 12 months of service Responsibilities Perform test procedures of moderate/high complexity, exercising independent judgement and responsibility in those specialties where qualified. Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot all applicable instruments/procedures. Support the department in quality control, troubleshooting complex problems, customer support, instrument/equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement and special projects. Perform and report assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met. Support and comply with laboratory policies, specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting and record maintenance of patient results. Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time of results, including stats or critical results to clients. Ensure reagents/test kits have received dates, expiration dates, and if applicable opened dates. Conduct and document QC analysis, making quality control decisions regarding assay or test disposition. Inform supervisory personnel of all problems related to test procedure performance. Report any actual or potential deviation from standard or accepted testing procedures and cooperate fully with investigations. Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reports. Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional and sanitary condition. Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate. Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel. Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA and laboratory safety requirements. Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls and/or work practice controls as directed by management. Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel, if applicable. Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections, if needed. Assume lead responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor, if qualified and delegated. Other duties as assigned. Required Work Experience One (1) year full‑time experience or training in high complexity testing in a clinical laboratory setting. Preferred Work Experience Minimum of 3 years clinical experience, with the most recent year in the present department. Physical and Mental Requirements Lifting and carrying: 1–10 lbs frequently; 11–25 lbs occasionally; 36–50 lbs seldom; over 50 lbs not to be lifted without assistance. Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods. Frequent walking and/or standing. Use of manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments requiring significant manual dexterity. Knowledge Comprehensive theoretical and operational knowledge in designated specialty. Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures. BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry or Biology; Associates in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology; or previous qualification as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 (published March 14, 1990). Foreign‑educated candidates must provide credential evaluation from IERF; U.S. candidates must provide original transcript. State‑specific requirements may apply; consult local HR or QA departments. Education Associate’s Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology (preferred). Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Biology or Chemistry (preferred). Licenses and Certifications ASCP Certification (preferred).
