At Northrop Grumman, you’ll have the resources, support, and team to do some of the best work of your career.The Advanced EOIR team anticipates a near-term need for a Senior Principal Systems Engineer to work as a deputy technical lead for technical concepts and algorithm development work related to advanced electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) sensing. As the deputy lead of this team, you will guide the team in sensor modeling, signal/image processing, and AI/ML algorithm development. The team is focused on researching solutions for emerging sensors and mission areas and has a need for more staff to support the growing range of programs supported. Come join us for this 100% on-site position from Linthicum, MD!What You’ll Get To Do:As a technical lead, you will guide a diverse team of physicists, signal processing engineers, and AI/ML engineers in developing novel EOIR sensor capabilities and evaluating the performance of these techniques. You will also perform direct technical work to advance the needs for the group. You will develop concepts for novel EO/IR sensors and develop cutting-edge algorithms to meet emerging mission needs. You will analyze data collected from some of the most advanced sensors ever fielded and generate representative synthetic data using high-fidelity, physics-based models.A strong candidate for this role has experience in airborne and/or space-based EOIR sensors, experience developing and implementing algorithms, and experience leading teams to successful program execution.Roles and Responsibilities: In coordination with the algorithm architect, lead technical execution of R&D programsMentor and develop junior team membersDevelop, integrate, test, and deploy novel EOIR-centric algorithmsDevelop and quantify performance metrics for system performanceUnderstand data quality and artifact impactsRepresent system performance in functional and analytical modelsThis position is contingent upon the successful transfer of an active U.S. Government Secret Clearance and the ability to obtain Special Program Access.Basic Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of experience, master's degree with 6 years of experience or Ph.D. with 4 year of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.U.S Citizenship is required.A current/active U.S. Government Secret ClearanceAbility to obtain Special Program Access (SAP)Experience leading junior and/or peer team membersExperience in technical computing languages, e.g. Python or MATLABExperience with airborne and/or space-based EOIR sensorsExperience with the understanding of Physics-based detection methods for various phenomenologiesPreferred Qualifications:Advanced degree in STEMExperience writing technical proposalsExperience acting as principal investigator of team lead for R&D programsExperience developing and executing internal research and development projectsCurrent Top Secret clearance, SAP access(es), and/or SCI accessStrong communication skills, both for internal and external audiencesNorthrop Grumman provides a comprehensive benefits package and a work environment which encourages your growth and supports the mutual success of our people and our company. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
