School Custodian

Position Summary

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming learning environment throughout Providence Englewood Charter School. This position performs daily custodial, maintenance, and event setup responsibilities to ensure the school building and grounds are properly maintained for students, staff, families, and visitors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Custodian maintains a clean, orderly, and safe environment throughout the school. Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Clean, sanitize, and disinfect classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, cafeteria, gymnasium, and common areas.
• Clean and disinfect lavatories, sinks, mirrors, fixtures, and replenish restroom supplies.
• Sweep, dust mop, wet mop, scrub, strip, seal, wax, and buff floors to maintain school flooring in excellent condition.
• Vacuum carpeted areas and clean entryways, windows, and glass surfaces in designated locations.
• Collect, remove, and properly dispose of trash and recycling from classrooms, offices, cafeteria, and common areas.
• Maintain the cleanliness of exterior entrances, sidewalks, parking areas, dumpster enclosures, and school grounds.
• Open and prepare the school each morning for students and staff.
• Secure and lock the building after school activities as assigned.
• Remove snow and ice from entrances and walkways dring inclement weather.
• Assist with classroom, cafeteria, gymnasium, and event setup and breakdown for school programs, meetings, and special events.
• Receive and transport deliveries to classrooms and designated areas.
• Report maintenance concerns, building damage, safety hazards, and equipment repairs to the Chief Operations Officer promptly.
• Maintain an organized inventory of custodial supplies and equipment.
• Operate custodial equipment safely and according to manufacturer guidelines.
• Perform preventative cleaning and minor maintenance tasks as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Operations Officer.

Requirements

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous custodial or facilities maintenance experience preferred, preferably in a school or commercial setting.
• Knowledge of proper cleaning methods, custodial chemicals, and safe equipment operation.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining a safe learning environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, and visitors.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull custodial equipment, furniture, supplies, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to safely operate floor maintenance equipment, including scrubbers, buffers, and burnishers.
• Must be experienced in stripping, sealing, waxing, and maintaining school floors.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, reach overhead, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions when necessary.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time, year-round position. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to support school events, deep cleaning, and special projects.
