Kindergarten Spanish Immersion Teacher

There is a Kindergarten Spanish Language Arts/Social Studies Teacher position open at the Spanish Immersion School for the 2026-2027 school year. The class will be taught in Spanish. Listed below are some duties, responsibilities and requirements for this position:

QUALIFICATIONS :

Accredited college/university degree. Valid Ohio elementary teaching license is required for grades and subjects taught. Substitute licensure will not be accepted. Applicant must possess Highly Qualified Teacher status. Must have near-native proficiency in the Spanish language Successful experience in working in multicultural settings. A minimum of one year of living in a Spanish speaking country is preferred. Prior immersion classroom teaching experience is preferred. Teaching experience among K-8 age group, preferably in Spanish content. Experience using dynamic, child-centered educational techniques and media, and highly creative. Technologically prepared to teach in modern classrooms. Highly organized, motivated and willing to set high expectations for self and students. For non-native Spanish speakers a score of "superior" on the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) is strongly preferred

JOB OBJECTIVE:

To provide the instruction, motivation and encouragement that will enable the students to fulfill their optimum potential and achieve at the highest level. DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO : The building principal or his/her administrative designee. Essential Skills : Communications Skills : As well as the traditional communication skills of reading, speaking and writing coherently and clearly, social media communication skills and proper protocols of online engagement are essential. These might include the ability to create a short YouTube video to capture the demonstration of a process or to make a sales pitch, the ability to reach out through the internet to a wide community of people with one's ideas, to receive and incorporate feedback, to share information appropriately, and to identify trends and ideas from elsewhere; The Ability to Learn Independently : This means taking responsibility for working out what you need to know, and where to find that knowledge. This is an ongoing process in knowledge-based work, because the knowledge base is constantly changing. it could be learning about new equipment, new ways of doing things, or learning who are the people you need to know to get the job done; Ethics and Responsibility : This is required to build trust (particularly important in informal social networks), in a world where there are many different players, and a greater degree of reliance on others to accomplish one's own goals; Teamwork and Flexibility : This depends heavily on collaboration and the sharing of knowledge with others in related but independent organizations. Teachers need to know how to work collaboratively, virtually and at a distance, with colleagues, students and partners. The ‘pooling' of collective knowledge, problem-solving and implementation requires good teamwork and flexibility in taking on tasks or solving problems that may be outside a narrow job definition but necessary for success; Thinking Skills (critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, originality, strategizing): Of all the skills needed in a knowledge-based society, these are some of the most important. Teachers dealing with students, parents and the general public need to be able to identify needs and find appropriate solutions; Digital Skills : Most knowledge-based activities depend heavily on the use of technology. These skills need to be embedded within the knowledge domain in which the activity takes place. Thus, the use of digital technology needs to be integrated with and evaluated through the knowledge-base of the subject area incorporating digital skills to analyze, evaluate and interpret as required. Knowledge Management : Knowledge is not only rapidly changing with new research, new developments, and rapid dissemination of ideas and practices over the internet, but the sources of information are increasing, with a great deal of variability in the reliability or validity of the information. The key skill in a knowledge-based society is knowledge management: how to find, evaluate, analyze, apply and disseminate information, within a particular context.

DUTIES/PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :

Carry out all responsibilities associated with an elementary immersion teaching assignment. Conduct classroom instruction of all basic subjects in Spanish. Interweave cultural student activities throughout the school year. Infuse multi-cultural education and concepts into the curriculum on a continual basis. Develop multi-cultural curriculum materials and instructional strategies for elementary students as a part of a grade-level team. Communicate closely and encourage parental involvement regarding program goals, classroom activities, homework and school functions. Create a safe classroom environment. Collaborate with grade-level team members, program coordinator, principal and other staff regarding program implementation. Maintain knowledge of current and emerging trends, procedures and evaluation processes in immersion programs. Participate in weekly program planning and staff development activities. Participate in all training programs required for the immersion program. Ability to relate positively to primary-age children. Enthusiasm and a strong commitment to the full immersion teaching philosophy. Excellent proven communication skills (non-verbal, oral, written, and listening). Ability to implement creative and innovative teaching strategies. Good organizational skills and flexibility in relating to students, parents, peers, and supervisors. Must be able to work well in a team environment through cooperation and participation. In-depth knowledge of a Spanish culture. In-depth knowledge of technology. Ability to appropriately teach children with different ability levels and learning styles. Ability to understand that students are individuals, and the skill to work effectively with individual strengths and needs of students. Knowledge and ability to creatively instill the love of learning in students. Ability to incorporate international cultures into lesson plans throughout the year. Creatively strive to make connections with parent, other classes, community, and beyond. Assure the welfare, health, and safety of the children. Take daily attendance and keeping all required reports. Attend pre-service and in-service training as required. Other reasonable duties as assigned by the building principal.
