This role focuses on resolving field issues, improving product reliability, reducing cost, managing component obsolescence, and implementing engineering changes. The Product Sustaining Engineer works cross-functionally with Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Service, and Product Development to ensure stable, efficient, and high-performing products in production.Principal ActivitiesInvestigate and resolve field failures, warranty claims, and production issuesPerform structured root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actionsSupport quality containment activities and CAPA processesProvide technical guidance to manufacturing and service teamsInitiate and manage ECNs/ECRsUpdate drawings, BOMs, specifications, and technical documentationSupport deviation requests and disposition non-conforming materialValidate and implement engineering design changesIdentify and drive product improvements for reliability, performance, and costLead value engineering and cost-reduction initiativesImprove manufacturability (DFM/DFA)Incorporate lessons learned into product design standardsManage component obsolescence and qualify alternate partsSupport supplier quality investigations and approve substitute componentsTroubleshoot assembly and test line issuesDevelop technical work instructions and training materialsSupport pilot builds and production ramp-upsFinancial/Risk ControlFulfill the financial control and risk management responsibilities inherent in the position.Conduct yourself in accordance with the Company code of ethics policy at all times.Skills and KnowledgeStrong root cause analysis and problem-solving skillsExperience in a manufacturing environmentKnowledge of ECN/ECR and change management processesAbility to interpret engineering drawings and BOMsUnderstanding of DFM and cost-reduction principlesFamiliarity with quality systems, CAPA, and non-conformance processesCAD proficiency (SolidWorks preferred)Strong cross-functional communication skillsRequired Education/ CertificationBS in mechanical engineering or related fieldLean / Six Sigma certification preferredRequired Experience(Minimum)3–7 years of experience in sustaining, product, or manufacturing engineeringExperience supporting products in production and resolving field/warranty issuesHands-on experience with root cause analysis and corrective action implementationExperience managing engineering changes (ECNs) and updating technical documentationFamiliarity working cross-functionally with Quality, Manufacturing, and Supply ChainPhysical and Travel RequirementsHands-on experienceMust be able to lift at least 25 lbsMust be able to sit and stand for long periods of timeMust be willing to travel up to 50% #J-18808-Ljbffr Scotsman-Group-LLC
