Summary  

The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems and equipment in industrial environments. This position works independently and as part of a team to ensure electrical systems are installed and maintained safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable codes, specifications, and company standards. The Journeyman Electrician may also provide guidance and mentorship to apprentices and helpers while supporting project and maintenance operations.

Minimum Qualifications 

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Journeyman Electrician License, certification, or equivalent documented work experience as required by state or local regulations.
• Minimum of 4 years of industrial electrical experience preferred.
• Experience working in industrial construction, petrochemical, refinery, manufacturing, power generation, or related environments.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, blueprints, and specifications.
• Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
• Valid driver's license and ability to maintain an insurable driving record.
• Ability to pass all required pre-employment screenings, safety training, and site-specific requirements.
• TWIC card and/or other site credentials may be required depending on project location.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities  

• Thorough knowledge of industrial electrical systems, equipment, and installation practices.
• Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable safety regulations.
• Knowledge of motors, motor controls, switchgear, transformers, MCCs, and distribution systems.
• Knowledge of lockout/tagout procedures and electrical safe work practices.
• Ability to install, test, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems and equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Skilled in conduit bending, cable installation, terminations, and equipment hookups.
• Proficient in the use of electrical testing equipment, meters, and diagnostic tools.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to lead, train, and mentor apprentices and helpers.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to maintain a strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.
• Basic computer skills and ability to complete electronic documentation as required.

Essential Functions

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and test industrial electrical systems and equipment.
• Install conduit, cable trays, raceways, supports, wiring, and electrical components.
• Pull, terminate, splice, and test conductors and control wiring.
• Install and connect motors, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, control panels, and distribution equipment.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical systems.
• Diagnose electrical malfunctions and determine appropriate corrective actions.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, one-line diagrams, and project specifications.
• Perform electrical testing using meters, meggers, and other diagnostic equipment.
• Assist with equipment startup, commissioning, and system verification activities.
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
• Complete required documentation, inspections, and maintenance records.
• Participate in job safety analyses, safety meetings, and ongoing training programs.
• Provide guidance and direction to apprentices and less experienced personnel.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, reach, climb, balance, push, and pull while performing pipefitting activities.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the scheduled shift.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and handle heavier piping materials, tools, or equipment using appropriate assistance or material-handling equipment.
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders and work from scaffolds, elevated work platforms, pipe racks, and other industrial work areas as required.
• Ability to perform repetitive movements associated with measuring, layout, fitting, bolting, tool use, and material handling.
• Ability to work on uneven, muddy, rocky, or otherwise variable walking and working surfaces.
• Ability to work outdoors in heat, humidity, cold, rain, wind, and other weather conditions.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, high-visibility clothing, steel-toed footwear, FR clothing, fall protection, and other project-specific PPEWork Environment  

Work Environment 

• Work is primarily performed at active industrial construction, maintenance, turnaround, and customer facilities.
• Work may be performed in refinery, petrochemical, chemical, LNG, power generation, manufacturing, and other heavy industrial environments.
• Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, temperature extremes, noise, vibration, dust, dirt, fumes, moving equipment, piping systems, and other conditions typical of industrial construction and maintenance.
• Work may be performed around operating process units, piping systems, elevated work areas, excavations, structures, mobile equipment, and ongoing construction or maintenance activities. 
• ​Work may require the use of ladders, scaffolds, elevated work platforms, and fall-protection systems.
