We are seeking a compassionate, creative, and supportive counselor to join our hospice’s Pediatric team. The ideal candidate can have a background in the expressive therapies, child life or theological studies with demonstrated experience supporting children through grief and/or end-of-life care.

This role is vital in delivering meaningful, therapeutic programs and support for siblings and parents of pediatric patients. The Pediatric Counselor will facilitate group sessions, coordinate quarterly events, and support staff and volunteers with training and resources for creative engagement with families. This position involves travel throughout Northeast Ohio.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

· Assess spiritual needs and develop goals based on the patient and families focus for existential support.

· Collaborate with the pediatric team to identify high-risk situations that require increased spiritual care or bereavement support.

· Collaborate with the community pastoral care/clergy familiar with the family to create a plan for support from the pediatric team.

· Plan and lead quarterly therapeutic programs tailored to parents or siblings coping with grief and loss.

· Provide education to hospice staff, volunteers, and students that focuses on spiritual care, bereavement support and therapeutic activities that are provided to pediatric patients and their family.

· Track attendance and maintain up-to-date rosters for all support group participants.

· Collaborate with the pediatric team and bereavement team to develop meaningful and diverse offerings for the community.

· Maintain professional documentation and follow ethical and clinical guidelines as outlined by licensing boards.

· Participate in the On-Call rotation with the other pediatric counselors.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERTISE AND KNOWLEDGE

· Master’s degree in art therapy, child life, music therapy, social work or theological studies.

· Licensed in the State of Ohio and Board certified.

· Completed or in the process of completing a minimum of one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or equivalent clinical training and experience.

· Experience in grief counseling, bereavement, or end-of-life care settings strongly preferred.

· At least 1-2 years of experience working in a pediatric setting that has offered group work as well as counseling support to children and families.

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to engage compassionately with individuals in emotional distress.

· Skilled in a wide range of therapeutic approaches and comfortable tailoring creative activities to diverse groups.

· Ability to work independently, manage multiple responsibilities, and maintain organized records.

· Willingness to travel throughout Northeast Ohio and work occasional evenings.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Previous experience with the pediatric population.

· Enthusiastic about bringing creativity, empathy, and healing to pediatric siblings and families.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Compliance to Annual Flu Shot Policy or ability to provide exemption documentation
• Provide an active auto insurance policy as a licensed driver in the State of Ohio with the proper level of coverage as directed

• Ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
