Job Description

The 2nd Shift Industrial Painter plays a key role in finishing large industrial equipment using wet spray painting techniques. Working on the 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. shift, this position focuses on preparing, painting, and inspecting parts to ensure high-quality finishes that meet strict standards and compliance requirements. You will work closely with a Paint Helper, support their training, and use computer-based tools, including Excel, to document and manage painting activities.

Responsibilities

• Perform industrial wet spray painting on large equipment and components using appropriate sprayers and techniques.
• Prime parts prior to painting to ensure proper adhesion and high-quality finishes.
• Prepare parts for painting, including grinding, sanding, and other surface preparation tasks.
• Hang painted parts on the line for drying in accordance with established processes and safety guidelines.
• Conduct thorough quality checks on finished parts to verify coverage, finish consistency, and adherence to specifications.
• Work alongside a Paint Helper and actively assist in training them on proper painting, prep, and safety procedures.
• Manage and follow correct paint mixing ratios and levels, ensuring compliance with product and safety requirements.
• Apply knowledge of compliance standards related to industrial painting, mixing, and coating processes.
• Use computers proficiently, including Excel, to record data, track work, and support production documentation.
• Support paint booth operations, including setup, cleanup, and routine maintenance of painting equipment.
• Collaborate with team members in the paint shop to maintain an efficient, safe, and organized work area.
• Participate in quality assurance activities related to wet spray and powder coat processes as needed.
• Follow all safety protocols, including use of required personal protective equipment, and contribute to a safety-focused culture.
• Remain flexible to work overtime, up to 10 hours as needed, to meet production demands across multiple shifts.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 2 years of experience with industrial painting and wet spray paint applications.
• Minimum 2 years of experience working with paint mixing ratios and mixing levels.
• At least 3 years of experience with industrial paint spraying processes.
• Strong proficiency with wet painting using sprayers on large equipment and components.
• Hands-on experience with paint prep, including grinding, sanding, and surface preparation.
• Ability to perform quality assurance checks on painted parts to ensure they meet specifications.
• Proficiency with computers and familiarity with Microsoft Excel for tracking and documentation.
• Knowledge of paint shop operations, including paint booth procedures and safety practices.
• Understanding of compliance requirements related to industrial painting and mixing processes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with powder coat processes is a plus.
• industrial painting environments, including paint booth and paint shop settings.
• Ability to train and mentor paint helpers or less experienced team members.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality finished products.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with multiple shifts.
• Willingness to work overtime, including up to 10-hour shifts, to support production needs.

Work Environment

This role is based in a large, 150,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Canton, Ohio that produces metal enclosed bus systems for a wide range of markets, including power generation, distribution, petro-chemical, transit, municipal, data center, and industrial sectors. The facility currently employs approximately 7080 people on the manufacturing floor and about 130 employees in total, offering a busy and collaborative production environment. There are six openings for wet spray painters, and painting positions are available on all shifts. Standard hours are 6:00 a.m. to 2:00/3:00 p.m. for first shift, 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. for second shift, and 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. for third shift, with a $1.00 shift differential for applicable shifts. Employees must be open to working up to 10 hours of overtime to meet production demands. The dress code requires jeans, a shirt, steel toe boots, safety glasses, and ear plugs, reflecting a safety-conscious industrial setting with active paint booth and paint shop operations.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Canton, OH.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $26.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
