Job Title: Medical Technologist Profession: Laboratory Specialty: Medical Microbiology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 hours (12:00 - 20:30) Experience: Minimum of 3 years preferred License: Certification as a Medical Technologist required Certifications: ASCP BOC or equivalent certification required Must-Have: Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or a relevant medical or scientific discipline Experience in culture reading, identification, and susceptibility testing Experience in Gram stain reading, plating, and rapid PCR setup Experience with molecular testing, such as BioFire Torch panels and Cepheid assays Ability to perform quality control and troubleshoot laboratory instruments Description: The position involves supporting high-quality laboratory testing in a clinical laboratory. The medical technologist will prepare specimens for testing and perform routine laboratory tests. They will conduct specialized laboratory tests and perform quality control checks. The role requires troubleshooting quality control errors and maintenance procedures. The individual will recognize and evaluate computer data problems and troubleshoot laboratory instruments. Preventative maintenance is a key responsibility. The role involves communicating technical information to both medical and laypersons. The medical technologist will assist in training laboratory personnel in routine procedures. Participation in continuing education is expected. The technologist will recognize normal and abnormal values. Modeling professional standards of behavior in daily interactions is essential. Rotating weekends and holidays may be required, currently every third weekend. No on-call requirements exist for this position. The role is strictly focused on microbiology, with no floating between service lines. Candidates must comply with all requirements related to the submitted position. Travelers should be prepared for potential emergency response assignments during hurricane season, which runs from June through November.
