Assistant Softball/Pitching Coach

Assistant Softball/Pitching Coach Position in the Department of Athletics at Tennessee State University – Main Campus – Full‑Time (Varying hours per week, Fiscal year of 12 months). Job Duties Assist the Head Women’s Softball Coach in recruiting, instructing, and retaining highly skilled student‑athletes, with an emphasis on pitching. Coordinate activities under the direction of the Head Softball Coach. Assist with budget preparations and operate within approved budget allocations. Provide instruction on the fundamentals, details, and strategies of softball as assigned by the Head Coach. Adhere to all policies and regulations of the Director of Athletics, University, OVC, and NCAA. Assist with the marketing and promotion of softball. Counsel student athletes in sport participation, personal development, and academics. Work with the Admissions Office to enroll student‑athletes. Assist in monitoring student‑athlete academic progress. Assist in fundraising for softball and the Athletic Department. Assist in maintenance of softball field and practice areas. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to effectively teach fundamentals with emphasis on pitching and other positions during practices. Ability to motivate individuals and the team successfully. Ability to travel and recruit student‑athletes. Ability to learn and comply with all policies and regulations of the University, OVC, and NCAA. Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information. Ability to interact appropriately with diverse populations and the public. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to drive student‑athletes to team athletic events (certification required). Ability to scout opponents. Flexible with hours; typical 9‑5 Monday‑Friday with nights, weekends, and travel. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of experience in coaching or administration of softball programs at the high school, collegiate, or equivalent level. Knowledge of NCAA rules and certification. Knowledge of University, TBR, and OVC policies and regulations. Must pass the NCAA recruiting test within the first 30 days of hire.
