Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Bring your expertise as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired to a fulfilling, contract-based assignment serving students in the Baltimore area for the 2026-2027 school year. This opportunity offers hands-on impact, working alongside a team of dedicated professionals to provide vital vision services across a close-knit cluster of schools. Your focus will be on supporting K-12 learners with diverse visual needs, helping shape their academic journey and independence.
You'll be based onsite, with IEP meetings supported virtually to maximize your time with students and minimize unnecessary travel. Caseload and school assignment will be thoughtfully matched to your skills—those with strong braille proficiency may serve fewer, regionally concentrated schools, while others may support a broader cluster with manageable travel and strategic scheduling between sites.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Maryland teaching certificate with Vision endorsement (MSDE)
- Demonstrated background in teaching students with visual impairments
- Strong braille skills preferred, but all experience levels welcomed
- Willingness to travel between nearby schools as assigned
- Ability to attend virtual IEP meetings while remaining on school premises
- Prepared to provide copies of required licenses
- Completion of district background check, fingerprinting, and employment history review per House Bill 486
Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and group instruction tailored to students’ IEPs
- Collaborate with general and special education staff and families
- Assess and document student progress
- Participate in virtual IEP meetings between direct service times
- Maintain compliance with all credentialing and reporting standards
