Approved Electrician

Overview Within our Building Services department we are looking for a new Electrician to provide preventative and reactive maintenance across our North Somerset Campus based in Langford (BS40 5DU). In this role you will use your qualifications, skills and experience to carry out planned maintenance to help avoid issues and react to and rectify any faults across the campus. The role is largely autonomous, and you will manage your own workload throughout your working day, interacting with the University Security service, Facilities Managers, Facilities Assistants, staff and students to organise access to relevant work areas and provide detailed information about the nature, consequences and solutions to immediate problems. Responsibilities In this varied role you will work closely with Maintenance Technicians and Help Desk Coordinators to schedule and prioritise jobs and respond to emergency situations on a day‑to‑day basis. Tasks will include: Fixing internal and external lighting faults. Solving LV distribution system issues. Resolving electrical control faults on large and smaller heating systems. Resolving electrical control faults on ventilation systems, including performance issues. Fixing hot and cold water generation and circulation system issues. Carrying out planned preventative maintenance tasks. Performing emergency lighting testing and repairs. Repairing fixed wiring systems found during inspection and testing. Requirements You have significant experience in the repair and maintenance of commercial electrical building services and hold a recognised electrical qualification such as City & Guilds Level 2, Electrical or BTEC, Level 2, Electrical maintenance, or installation qualification. You possess strong knowledge of the 17th edition IEE Regulations (3rd amendment) BS 7671 and hold a full driving licence. You are a team player with excellent customer‑service skills, able to manage your own workload and possess a logical approach to fault‑finding and problem‑solving.
